Lily

It was late January, snow flakes were drifting through the air and the whole of Hogwarts grounds was covered in a thick layer of snow. Lily was sitting under a tree doing her homework while a magical purple fire kept her warm.

Suddenly out of nowhere, a large snowball flew through the air and hit her.

She looked up to a tree on her right and to no surprise saw Sirius laughing, while Remus smiled, Peter snorted and Potter stood there, his wand creating a perfectly round snowball in the air.

"Don't even think about-" it wizzed through the air and hit her in the face.

"Potter!" She roared ditching her school bag and grabbing her wand.

He grinned wickedly and created another but Lily was too quick and sent one flying at him.

"Argh!" He cried as wet snow dripped from the end of his nose. "I'm coming for you Evans!"

Lily could see his friends fall about laughing as she ran laughing towards the frozen lake, Potter chasing after her.

However Lily was at a disadvantage due to his athleticism and Potter caught up to her easily behind a wooded area.

She slowed and turned to see Potter levitating a dozen snowballs and grinning at her.

"Oh great," she muttered ducking her head to dodge the snow but some flew into her hair. But she stuffed the wand in her pocket and faced him with a mischievious grin.

Potter's eyes widened.

"Err Evans.." he said but she ran towards him and pushed him back into the snow. However she lost her balance and landed on top of him, their bodies ending in a tangled mess.

They both paused for a moment then burst out laughing.

"Ha-ha- your - face-" panted Lily with tears of laughter in her eyes.

Their laughter then slowly died and she looked down at Potter who was staring transfixed at her. She could feel his breaths deepening and his heart beat quickening and she blushed from the closeness. Her fiery red hair was tickling his chin.

Blushing? Because of Potter?
What had happened to her?

But she was too busy staring at him to care.

How had she never noticed how bright his hazel eyes were? Or the light dusting of freckles on his nose? How had she not noticed how soft his hair looked?

Merlin, she was dying to run her fingers through that dark, chocolatey hair which was now covered in a few little snowflakes.

"Lily?"

Potter's hoarse voice brought her back to earth.

He was watching her with a small knowing smile on his face.
And maybe it was his smile or maybe the pink of his lips. Or maybe it was just the spur of the moment that brought Lily to lean down and kiss him.

Her eyes fluttered open and she rolled off him.

Neither spoke.

They had both sat up and both had a stunned look on their face especially James who looked as though he'd just won 1000 galleons.

"Wait till I tell Padfoot..." Lily heard him mutter under his breath.
