It had been awhile now since Dawn had left Jake's apartment. The sad teen was alone now, and his mind continued torturing him to no end. Everything was quiet in the tiny apartment, except for the constant ticking of the clock hanging on the wall. Tick. . .Tock. . .Tick. . .Tock. . .. It seemed to go on forever.

In his hands, Jake held the little wooden box that was once Kassidy's. He couldn't put it down, and he couldn't stop staring at it. It held sweet memories of her, this was all he had left of her now. This little wooden box sitting in his hands.

He could almost see her now, sitting here beside him on the couch. Her slender arms wrapped around him in a loving embrace as she talked non stop about how she would run around town and explore, and about how they had went to many places together.

But, she wasn't here with him. And she never would be again. Tears once again formed in the dark green eyes of the teen as he thought about Kassidy.

Suddenly, the phone began to ring, the sudden loud ringing of the phone made Jake jump slightly. And with his feet nearly dragging the ground as he walked, he didn't even care to fully pick up his feet, he made his way over to the phone. Jake couldn't help but wonder who it was calling him, he worried about it being the wicked, popular brat, if it was Kayla, he was just going to hang up, he had absolutely nothing to say to her.

"Hello...?" Jake mumbled.

"Hello, is this Jake Ferrari speaking?"

"Yes. . .?" Jake leaned up against the wall to keep his balance, he had a feeling this phone call wasn't going to be good news.

"I'm the medical examiner. I have a private matter to discuss with you about the death of your girlfriend, Kassidy."

Jake was right, this wasn't good news. But what private matter did he have to discuss with him? He knew how Kassidy had died, she was stabbed. Everyone knew how she died, why was it a private matter?

"What is it?" Jake's voice was a bit demanding.

Jake could briefly hear a faint heart felt sigh on the other end of the phone. What ever it was he was about to say, it troubled him greatly.

"Since you were her boyfriend we felt you should know about this. I can't go into detail about what we had to do to Kassidy. I'm sure you know what I mean? But through our examinations on her body, we found something about Kassidy you probably didn't know."

"Well, what is it!?" Jake belted. He was worried and he was getting angry. What was he going to tell him?

"Jake. . .Kassidy was pregnant."

The destroyed teenager's stomach felt like it had just been turned up side and down, and his heart ripped completely out of his chest. Jake's mind felt blank, he couldn't think straight for a minute. He was in complete shock.

He suddenly remembered that special night they shared together, and what they had done that night. He must have gotten her pregnant that night. That would explain why she was acting so sick the few days before she was killed. Either that. . . or Kassidy had cheated on him. No, never. Kassidy would have never cheated on him. She loved him very much, Jake wasn't even going to think that.

Jake couldn't take it and began to cry while still on the phone. He didn't care that the medical examiner was still on the other end of the phone and could hear him.

"I. . .I have to go. . .I can't talk about this anymore..."

"Its alright, I understand..."

Without another word spoken to each other, Jake hung up the phone swiftly. He let his body slide down the wall as he sat on the floor and cried his heart out.

All Jake wanted right now was to see Kassidy once more, he wanted to see her smile again. It always took away his sorrow away when he would see her smile.

He wanted to hold her close to his heart and never let go of her again. He would tell her ever minute how much her loved and cherished her.

Jake put his face into his hands as he continued to cry, knowing this would never happen.

"Jake."

The teen looked up to the sound of the delicate voice and came face to face with his lover. Kassidy was in front of him, kneeling down on one knee as she looked him straight in the eyes.

"Kassidy. . .?"

Jake slowly tried to reach out and touch her on the cheek, but fear took over his body and he swiftly pulled his hand away from her. Kassidy was dead, she couldn't be here in front of him at this very moment.

"Kassidy. . .you. . .you died. . .how are you here?" Jake spoke in a whisper.

"Jake. . . you need to wake up."

"What? What are you saying? I'm not asleep."

"Jake, wake up. Your going to be late for school."

"Kassidy. . .I don't understand. How are you even here? You're dead!"

"Jake, don't make me tell you again! Now get up!"

Without any warning, Kassidy briskly rose her hand and smacked Jake hard across the face.

Jake quickly opened his tired emerald eyes and saw his mother towered above him. She had a look of annoyance across her face, and her hands rested on her hips. The teen jumped up from his bed and in to a sitting position as he look around at his surroundings. He wasn't in any apartment, but in his old bedroom at his old house. Was all of it just a strange dream he had?

"I'm sorry I had to smack you Jake, but it was the only way to get you to wake up. It was almost as if you were in a completely different world," His mother stated, "Now hurry up and get dressed. You don't want to be late for your second day of school do you?"

"My second day of school?" Jake was definitely confused now. How could it just be the second day of school?

"Yes, now hurry up. And by the way, Kayla has called you about a thousand times this morning."

Jake's mother tossed his cell phone over to him, before she walked out of his room. The confused teen quickly looked down at his phone, and sure enough, there was a ton of missed phone calls from Kayla.

None of it ever happened. It was all just a crazy dream.

It was all nothing but a mere movie that played inside his brain while he was asleep. He was not with Kassidy, but still with Kayla.

That meant that Kassidy still only saw Jake as nothing more than the popular high school football player that did nothing but make her life even more miserable than it already was. And she was still being abused by her drunken father every day. She was still wearing a mask to hide all of her pain from everyone around her. No one knew of the abusive life she was being held trapped in.

Except for Jake, he now knew more about her than he had before. This dream, showed him the real Kassidy, and what she had to endure everyday of her life. That there was more to this girl than what he had seen before. And what he could have with her.

But Kassidy was still afraid of him. And most likely didn't want anything to do with him. He just couldn't stand the thought of Kassidy avoiding him. Being scared of going around him in fear of getting laughed at or hurt. That thought made Jake feel very heavyhearted. . .

. . .But maybe, he could still change everything?
