As Ora blew out the candles on for her ninth birthday, she looked to Klaus. His smile was odd. It was almost like he couldn't quite expose his teeth. But Ora always liked it. She would grab his cheeks and stretch out his smile just so they both had a reason to giggle. They had been best friends, and anyone could see that they were meant to be childhood sweet hearts. Or at least in Ora's eyes he was the cutest boy she's ever seen.

Ora always considered herself a tomboy. She grew up having two brothers, and having only guy friends. Her hair was short and dark, and her wardrobe mainly consisted of black jeans and loose shirts. Her thick, black glasses were the only barrier from the golden brown eyes that Klaus adored.
Klaus on the other hand also had short brown hair and he had very large brown eyes. His arms were very lanky and he was short for his age. He was 11 the day that Ora turned 9 years old.

After everyone applauded Ora for blowing out her candles, she was left alone with Klaus and the oldest of her brothers, James.
"Happy Birthday Ora. I remember on my ninth birthday, I got a whole set of toy cars" Klaus looked kindly at Ora as she fiddled with one of her party balloons.
"Are you happy?"
Ora leaned over and snuck a kiss onto Klaus' cheek.
"I'm very happy!" She giggled and dragged Klaus over to the table of food and handed him a cupcake.

That's how their childhood had always been; small romantic gestures, adorable commentary, and a consistent sparkle gleaming in Ora's eye. That all ended once Klaus turned 13.
