There Steve was getting beat up in an alley once more before Bucky came, decked out in a uniform. He punched Steve's attacker before he ran off.

"You okay kid?" Bucky asked as he looked him down.

"Yeah. I could do this all day." Steve replied out of breath. After catching it and seeing Bucky fully since he arrived he asked,

"Did you get your orders?"

"107th, Sargent James Barnes, I leave first thing tomorrow." He says embracing him in a side hug leading them out of the alley.

"You think they're gonna accept me?" Steve asked nervously.

"Which one of you?" Bucky asked with a smirk.

Steve just looked down with a red face. He was always the shy type and it enhanced even more since his sister wasn't around anymore.

"Hey we're going out tonight, I found a gal and she's got a friend for you." Bucky said as he walked towards their home.

"What?" Steve asked confused.

"C'mon we're going out with two gals to see the carnival thing they got goin on, we'll be dancing too ya know." Bucky said as she smiled at a girl walking passed them.

"I don't know buck... I don't really know how to dance." Steve shyly replied. He also didn't like it when Bucky set him up on dates since both usually wanted to go with Bucky at the same time and he'd basically let them. Himself totally forgetting Steve.

"Don't worry, just go along with the beat. Besides we're going to the future." Bucky said with a smirk.

~time skip~

"Hey!" Steve called out to Bucky as he was heading out to get ready for his departure the next day. All throughout his date he couldn't get his favorite gal off his mind. He ended the night fairly quickly after saying goodbye to the two girls, both were trying to get at Bucky since apparently Steve wasn't up to their standards.

Tis a sad day indeed.

"What?" He called out confused as he turned around.

"Don't win the war till I get there." Steve said with a hopeful smile that Bucky returned with a smirk.

"Don't do anything stupid while I'm gone!" Bucky called out with a smile.

"Don't worry- can't anyways! You're takin all the stupid with ya!" Steve yelled with a laugh causing Bucky to chuckle.

He didn't respond back but instead left to his home with a smile on his face. On the way there he passed by the cemetery. His smile soon vanished.

                  Sarah Rogers

A mother, a friend, a wife, a lover.

Bucky looked at the two graves that were side by side to one another, Sarah and Joseph Rogers.

"Hey Ma hey Pa, I hope heavens beautiful and that you have an amazing view of us down here." He whispered sadly.

"I got accepted into the army... Imma finally be with little Sarah. She's not so little anymore is she?" He asked as he put a rose he picked from a nearby bush on each of their graves.

"I'll protect her for you, I swear to it on my life that I will." He said before kissing his hand and placing it on both their tomb stones.

"She's been getting under my skin." He smiled lightly.

He began to walk back to his house in silence as he counted the cracks in the floor and the stars in the sky. All he could picture in his mind was Sarah in that old dress her neighbor had made.

Because Sarah helped that women get better from a fatal illness she made dresses for her in return.

He wasn't much of a drawer like Steve but in that instant he knew that she needed to be saved so that all in the future would see her beauty. Capturing the memory of her he had painted an image of her hairstyle and dress of the time that he had remembered most.

When she was most excited to wear something that Bucky or Steve hadn't worked hard for.

He sighed as he thought to himself,

"I'm becoming a chump."

With that he got home preparing for his departure but little did he know that so was his bestfriend Steve.
