Chapter 04:
I entered the hospital that I've become accustomed to over the past year and a half.
It's kind of ironic that I spend so much time at the hospital yet I hated them with a passion.
I was honestly scared of them, and since I've been visiting people and seeing what's happened to them, it makes me that much more terrified.
I knew that hospitals were establishments meant for healing people, but so many people die in there.
The thought of Desiree or any of the people I visited dying made my stomach hurt with anxiety.
"Hello Arielle!" Darla, the receptionist, chirped at me.
Darla was a middle aged women that dyed her hair ruby red along with ruby red lipstick almost as obnoxiously red as her hair.
Nobody at the heart to tell her that red was in fact not her color, simply because she was a total sweetheart.
"Hello, Darla. How are you today?"
"Great. Come to see Desiree and the rest of the gang?" She gave me her knowing smile.
"Yes, except I think I'm going to see Desiree last so that I have more time with her." She gave me that same knowing smile, and I went to the hospital room I had memorized the location of a while ago.
I knocked on the door.
"Come in." Her weak voice was still full of energy.
"Hello baby girl." Desiree looked up a me with shiny brown eyes, a pink bandana on her head.
"I'm coming to visit you last so I have more time. I was just checking in so you didn't think I forgot about you." She started laughing so hard, and she was so sick that her laughs turned into coughs.
I handed her the water bottle on her bedside table and she gladly took it from me.
After her coughing fit was over she looked at me with her toothy grin.
"You're so silly Ari! You'd never forget about me." Tears filled my eyes and I just smiled at the wise girl.
She was dying but she was so full of life.
"Never would I ever. How could I forget about the sunshine?" She smiled even wider. "Where's your parents?"
"Their getting me food from the cafeteria." She scrunched up her nose and I laughed.
"See you soon baby." I closed the door and headed to room 203, Mable's room.
