Twilight had fallen when I snuck out the window. I had no idea where I was going at first but the wind eventually carried me to my destination.
My legs ached as I walked each an every mile. After two hitch hikes and what seemed like a million miles I slumped against a tall old oak tree. I closed my eyes and let my brain wonder to an old memory, back when things were okay.
"Come on ma! We're almost there." My seven year old self exclaimed.
My mother chuckled as we me it to the familiar oak tree. We both sat next to each other on the green grass in the shade of the tree.
"This will always be our special tree Alison. Whenever you're feeling lonely or if you need to think just come here and think of all that is good." My mum gave me a delicate kiss on my forehead.
Standing up she too a pocket knife out of her purse and began carving structures onto the tree. Standing up also I saw my name engraved with messy letters.
"This is so everyone will know this is your tree. Make sure you leave your mark on the world Alice, never be forgotten. If you are remembered then what happens in the after won't matter. You'll still live on in the before."
I smiled and kept her words with me from then on.
Smiling over the memory I lifted my head to see the faint yet still visible Alice engraving, I stood up with my own pocket knife and carving a couple more words onto it. Taking a bottle out of my jacket pocket I stared at the brightly coloured pills. One of Cobra's new inventions that I managed to smuggle before I left. With each good memory I had, each moment before everything went wrong I took a pill. I may have not had as much good memories as you, but I had enough to get the job done.
Pill diet, pill diet. If they give you a new pill then you will try it...
Everything went serene, like time had taken a dramatic pause. Every worry was slowly lifted off my chest and I could no longer focus on all the bad that happened in my life but left peacefully with thoughts of only the good.
I was dragged along for too long, enough is enough. It's all fun and games until someone goes insane, and I did. I turn into my worst nightmare and stole heart after hear destroying everything in my path. I at least know now that my journey is done. I'll be remembered ma. I've been freed from my real life wonderland. I am at peace.
Never forget Alice Liddell.
