The Love House
Chapter 3
Damen's POV
"Do you think she is home?" I ask Derek.
"Why wouldn't she be?" he replies.
"I don't know. She might be doing something..or something." I say.. I really hope she is home.
"What the hell is wrong with you today?" he asks, a little angrily.
"What do you mean?" I ask, quite confused.
"I mean, when are you anxious about a girl? You know you're only talking to her because she lives in the house right? Everyone will start rumors if something actually...happens here."
"I am not anxious about her. I couldn't care less about Ellie. She is just a girl. I screw girls all the time. The only reason why I even want to talk to her is because she lives in the house. Do you see her? She looks like the biggest loner in town." I hurt saying all those things. She actually seemed like a really nice girl. But Derek is right. The only reason why I am talking to her is because she lives in the house. My reputation relies on her.
Ellie's POV
I'm sitting in my room doing my homework for 3rd period when there is a knock on the door. I get up, even though I really felt lazy today, and walked to the door.
"Back again?" I say playfully when I see Derek at the door.
He smiles and pats the football he is holding in his arms. "Mind if we steal your backyard..again?" he asks politely, and I see his hazel eyes smile.
"Of course. Mind if I come play? Me and my dad used to always play football and I've been t-" Just then Damen walks up and he is..shirtless.
"I've been told that..uhh..that I am pretty good at throwing the ball." Of course I would stutter. I always do. Ugh. Why did he have to look so..perfect? I have never been attracted to anyone before. Why now?
"Haha yeah. You can play." Derek says with a smile.
"Just don't cry when you lose." says Damen with a smirk.
"You can be on my team Ellie Boo." Says Derek. Still using my teddy bear name. Damen sends Derek a evil glare, but I ignore it... so does Derek.
Really all we were doing were catching and throwing the ball, and it would be a understatment if I said I sucked. When I said I played with my father it wasn't a lie. The part about being good at throwing the ball, well, that was 100% a lie. Whoopsies.
"On second thought, Yeah Derek you can have El on your team all you want." Exclaims Damen between laughs. What can I say? I'm a loner; I don't get out that much. Ok. I don't get out at all.
"You guys!! Quit being the mean little jocks that you are."
Wow. Did I just actually have the guts to talk to a jock like that? Go me!!
"WHAT DID YOU JUST SAY?!"
..and that was how I wound up on the ground with two big football players tickling me to death. I had to admit though that it was kind of fun. This was the first time in a while I was laughing at something that wasn't one of my lame jokes that always pop up in my head. It was actually was a breathtaking experience. Who would've guessed that that loser Ellie would make friends with two football players? Not to mention three more friends who are really nice. If I told someone that from my old school they would think I was lying. No, actually I don't think they would even know who I was. I'm that girl that no one notices, and I thought that I liked it like that. I was awkward with attention. I was 100% fine with letting all the bratty cheerleaders of the school have the attention. They crave it like animals anyway. I think I actually am enjoying being someone for once. It feels...good.
"QUIT!! HAHAHHAHA PLEASE QUIT!!" I scream with laughter.
They finally quit, but I am still laughing. They start laughing too. You probably think that they were laughing from the fun and memorable experience we just had, but no. They are laughing at how stupid my laugh is. Did I forget to mention that my laugh sounds like a donkey in labor? Oh well. Now you know.
Then they started imitating the laugh, and I started laughing ten times harder. Did I mention that whne people mock my laugh it just tends to get worse? Well.. now you know.
After about an hour of Damen and Derek imitating me, then me laughing even worse, and then them laughing even harder, we finally got up and dusted ourselves off.
"Thanks for that wonderful *cough cough* football...throwing. Oh and uhhh that entertaining laugh." Damen choked out. Not to mention the "cough cough" thing that he did.
I slapped him playfully on the arm.
"Hey!" he said in a fake hurt voice.
"Oh suck it up Dame." Derek said, making us all giggle...well except Damen. He had a "hurt" look on his face.
We headed on inside my house and I really couldn't breathe. I think we were just flirting. Was that what flirting was like? I should really try this again. Then again, Damen is the absolute worst guy to flirt with. Why did I like him? The biggest man whore in the school?
"Need some water?" I asked them. I really wanted some water, so I am sure they were thirsty too.
"Sure."
"Yeah. Thanks."
I guided them into my kitchen and started taking three cups down from the cabinet. I couldn't help but be self conscious about my behind when I turned around to do so. Why did I all of a sudden care what anyone thinks? I never have. I just kind of ignored everyone, and they did me as well. It is a normal thing.
We all sat on the three stools at my counter with our cups of water.
"Why were you sitting with those people at lunch?" Damen asks.
"well. I really don't know. They just came and sat by me. They are actually really nice. I think I finally made some friends." Damen's face frowned, and I realized that he was my friend. So was Derek.
"Other than you two of course." I add. Damen's face picks up a tad, but I can still see a trace of sadness."
Derek smiles though, and I smile too.
"I think it's about time for me to go home." Says Derek, and I can't help the sudden jolt of sadness that I feel. I hated being alone at the house. Just a reminder that I will always be alone. My mom is always at work. Not to mention the thought of me moving once again. At least I get to move out after this year. No more of her crap anymore. I will move out into a house, and I will stay there. I wont put my kids through what I had to go through. They will make friends, real ones.
"Okay. I guess I'll see you later I say."
And with that, I was alone once again. Just like I'd always be. Alone.
