You poked your food around with the plastic fork supplied to you earlier, you ignore the other people at your table- knowing that they were doing the same thing. The only reason you sat at their table was because you didn't want to sit all by yourself and stick out like a sore thumb. You blended in, nobody noticed you, just the way you preferred.

As you glance around the busy cafeteria you catch Jacksons gaze on you and for a second your heart stops. 'Was he looking at me?' You think to yourself, your heart pounding against your ribcage. Why would THE Jackson Whittemore be staring at you? You were- to put in simply- a nobody. And he, well he was perhaps the most known guy at the school, captain of the lacrosse team, undeniably attractive... You smile slightly and shake your head at your stupidity, of course he wasn't looking at you! It was stupid to even consider that. You look down at your tray of food, that now seemed to loose its appeal. Leaving the tray on the table you stood up from your table and walked off out of the cafeteria. You headed towards the library, where you knew you would be comfortable amongst the books.

As you plopped down at one of the desks with a random book in hand you heard the chair next to you scrape across the ground. You ignore the person, slightly irritated that they had to sit next to you when there was another empty table behind you.

"Hey, Y/N right?" You looked up in surprise, staring directly into the eyes of Whittemore. You furrowed your eyebrows and glanced around you- was there someone else he was talking to? When you saw no one else he could of been talking to you moved your head down, letting your hair shield you from his gaze as you gave a small nod. You felt yourself clam up, nobody ever talked to you. So why was he bothering? Was this just some stupid dare? "Well I'm Jackson," You could practically hear the smile in his voice as you saw him extend his hand to you from the corner of your eye.

You turned your head towards him and gently shook his hand, as you did this Jackson gave himself a mental fist bump for finally introducing himself to you. He normally was extremely confident when speaking to girls, but you were different. It's taken him a long time to build up the courage to actually come say hi to you- and he didn't want to blow that chance now that he had it.

"You're in my biology class," He said awkwardly, not knowing what to say now that he had your attention. He saw the tiniest smile touch your lips and he couldn't help but smile too. "I'm aware," You say quietly, pushing a strand of hair behind your ear- however still keeping your eyes cast downward. "So, what're you reading?" He asked cheerfully, carefully selecting his question so you would have to reply, and he could hear your voice again.

However instead of replying to him you readjusted the book in your hand- so he could see the front cover of the book. He wanted to scream in frustration, why wouldn't you just talk to him? Instead of yelling he simply asked how you felt today, to which your replied with a shrug.

"Um well, if you want you should sit with me and my friends at lunch tomorrow," Jackson tried once again. You bit back a snort of laughter at his request- you? Sit with his group? Let's not push it. "Yeah maybe," You muttered, with full knowledge that it wouldn't happen- however that answer seemed good enough for the lacrosse captain as he smiled brightly at you. "Great! I guess i'll see you tomorrow then!" He said before he left his seat and exited the library, leaving you wondering the bloody heck just happened.

You didn't sit with him the next day, in fact, you didn't even sit in the cafeteria. You took refuge in the library at lunch, avoiding Whittemore and your awkward encounters. Sadly that meant that you couldn't buy yourself any lunch for that day, leaving you with an awkward rumbling stomach in the quiet library. You pushed your stomach into the desk you were sitting at- hoping to mask the sound you felt coming up. For a second you considered buying yourself some lunch, but you were scared that Jackson had some stupid joke planned out- it seemed to be the only logical explanation to why he invited you to sit with him.

Of course though, Jackson came through the library doors and making you sigh at little when he began to walk towards you. "Oh wow! Fancy seeing you here, I totally didn't know you were going to be here, I just needed to get a book out," He smiled at you before you turned your head down to your book, raising your eyebrows in slight acknowledgement. "I did bring you some lunch though, I figured you hadn't eaten anything yet," He added quickly, handing you a large packet of chips and a can of soft drink. You couldn't help the smile that spread across your face as you gratefully took the food.

Jackson seemed awfully strange when he wasn't with his posse. He was actually quite funny and caring, and it made you feel happy that anyone would actually bother with you in the first place. But you didn't want to make any assumptions, for all you knew this was just some stupid game for him and his friends. The thought alone made you cringe as he sat down, it was probably true.

Now when Jackson asked you a question you would simply just shrug- trying to avoid at conversation with him as you silently read and ate the food he brought you. "You don't talk much do you?" Shrug. "Do you talk to those other people you sit with sometimes?" Shrug. "Are they your friends?" Shrug. "You know you can always sit at my table?" Shrug. "We have biology next," Shrug. "You're not like most girls, I like that," Shrug. "Okay, you are either really quiet or just hate my guts," Shrug.

That seemed to shut him up for a bit as you both sat in an awkward silence. Jackson was raking his mind for options, he really liked you and wanted to get to know you more- but you didn't talk at all. Which was maybe the most frustrating thing he has ever had to deal with. "Will you go on a date with me?" Jackson blurted out suddenly, taking you by surprise. You turned your head to look at him, at he looked dead serious. You honestly had no idea what to do- so you simply gathered your stuff and awkwardly stood up, leaving him to sit there- dumbfounded.

The next day was the same, he visited you- brought you food, acted like nothing was awkward. Once again you ignored his questions and shrugged to most of them, and once again he asked you out, in which you walked away.

This process repeated itself for the next few days and honestly you were really enjoying his company, even though you never really spoke to him you liked having someone next to you. Even if it was completely awkward every single time you shot down his attempts to take you out on a date.

You sat on the cold bleachers, bouncing your knee repeatedly in anticipation as you watched the lacrosse game in front of you. You always came to watch the games, but this time it seemed more special as you had your eyes glued on only one member of the team. Number thirty-seven. When he caught the ball in his basket and ran towards the goal you couldn't help but cheer with everyone else. Your heart dropped when someone slammed into his shoulder, knocking him over and scooping up the ball. You wanted to make sure he was completely okay as he fixed himself up from the ground, looking into the ground. His gaze seemed to stop on you as he stared at you for a total of three seconds before barging back into the game, using you as motivation to win this match.

When he got the ball back the crowd riled up again, excited to see the captain shoot. Jackson quickly glanced at you from the corner of his eye, a smirk across his face that he knew nobody else could see. He saw you smiling and cheering with everyone else and his chest pounded with adoration for you. He flung the ball into the goals and the crowd went wild, all jumping and screaming with glee.

However Jackson didn't celebrate as he ran towards coach, grabbing the megaphone from him much to his protests. He then walked back into the middle of the field and spoke through it, "Y/N Y/L/N, Will you please go on a date with me?!" As he spoke those words everyone went quiet as they turned towards you. Never had you so violently wanted to shrivel up in a small ball and die so much. Everyone was staring at you and you felt the pressure build up before nodding, hoping he could see your nod. The crowd cheered for the succession of the date request and Jacksons heart swelled.
