Something nudged against your leg, making you pull it up to lie on the couch. You resumed reading your book, coming near the climax when something nudged your arm.

With a groan you lowered your book, peering over it at the large, black wolf sitting next to the couch.

"I'm reading Der..."

Derek let out a whine, his ears flopping down. You held back a coo and shifted your legs to make room on the couch. With an excited yip Derek jumped onto the couch, turning in a circle around himself before settling his furry head on your lap.

Giggling you ran your hand over his head, scratching behind his ear. The first time you had touched Derek while he was in full shift you had been cautious, but you soon got used to it.

Derek pushed his head harder against your hand, a pleased rumble making his body vibrate.

"I bet if we had a dog you wouldn't let him on the couch..." you wondered out loud, still stroking his fur.

The wolf on your lap lifted his head to look at you and you were sure you saw him rolling his eyes.

"What? It's true! I really would like a cat, but I guess that's not going to happen. You'll probably chase the poor thing through the whole loft and scar it for life!"

Derek growled at the word cat and now it was your time to roll your eyes.

"Just be a good boy and let me read," you instructed and lifted your book back up.

Derek as a full shifted wolf was even warmer than usual. You enjoyed feeling the heat on your lap while you stroked Derek's fur and he soon fell asleep under you ministration.

A knock on the door made you look up again from your now almost finished book and Derek immediately lifted his head, growling lowly.

"Calm down, Derek. I think it's just Lydia, she wanted to come over today," you said, trying to calm Derek down by patting his flank.

Despite your words Derek followed you towards the door, his paws padding across the floor. He walked close to you, his side pressing against your leg and hip with every step you took.

When you tried to reach for the door handle Derek stepped in front of you, pushing you back with his body. You sighed, but allowed Derek to stay in front of you while you reached over him to finally open the door.

Lydia smiled at you, but before either of you could react Derek snarled angrily, his whole body tensing. Just now you spotted the dog next to Lydia. She had mentioned that she was going to watch her neighbors' dog while they were on vacation, but you completely forgot about it.

Another snarl from Derek made Lydia and you look at each other with wide eyes.

"Shh, Derek. It's just a stupid dog. Relax," you said calmly, letting your hand rest on Derek's back, your fingers burying in his fur to hold him back if necessarily - even if it was a fruitless attempt considering his strength.

The dog next to Lydia dropped down on the floor and rolled on his back, exposing his belly in submission.

Lydia and you breathed a sigh of relieve when Derek stopped growling.

"I though he's going to rip Lucky to shreds," Lydia said, eyeing Derek wearily.

"Really, Lucky?" you snorted, "well, I'm not one to talk. I started calling Derek Fluffy, but he doesn't like it."

"At least you made a Harry Potter reference," Lydia remarked, brushing a strand of hair out of her face.

"Yeah, I told Derek the same, but you know how he is," you said and Derek pushed his snout against your hand, but you ignored him.
