Chapter Thirty-Six
The day went slow for Amber and Jack. He was stuck in bed all day, which made him antsy. He wanted to get up and walk around, but his body wasn't ready for that. So, he survived by talking to Amber.
They had hours upon hours of conversation with each other to pass the time. She was just glad to have him in her arms again."Can I walk now?" Jack asked, looking over at Amber.
She set his breakfast plate down on the counter and shook her head. She giggled when she heard him groaning. He sighed and looked around the room.
His buddies and teachers left flowers and cards on the table across the room. It gave more color to the beige and boring walls. He was going insane just laying there in his bed. He couldn't even go to the bathroom without supervision for Pete's Sake!"How about now?"
"No."
"Amberrrrrr. Please, can I now?"
"Jack, No!"
"How about now?"
"No."
"Okay, what about no-"
"No!" Amber said sternly, suppressing a smile.
Jack chuckled and saluted her before laying his head back against the lumpy pillow. His parents had heard the news the night before.
He had personally called him and told both of them everything that had happened while they were gone.
All the way from meeting Amber to the shooting that he was in. His parents were mortified and very concerned for their son. So, they said they were getting on the first plane over to Jack, and meet him in the morning. He missed his parents, especially after a month like this."My parents are coming today. I can't wait for you to meet them." Jack said quietly, smiling at Amber.
Amber froze and looked at Jack. She knew she eventually had to meet his parents, but she didn't want it to be like this. She bit her lip and wringed her hands as she made her way over to his bed. He gripped her hand gently and looked into her eyes.
"They're not going to like me, are they? What if they think I'm weird!? I mean I know some poeple already think that, but what if they do!? Aren't they expecting you to be with a cheerleader or something? What if I don't meet their expectations? What if-"
Jack cut her off by pulling her chin towards him. He silenced her with a kiss and caressed her cheek. She took a deep breath and looked at the ground.
"They are going to love you. I told them everything, they know. They know it wasn't your fault, they know it was Luke's. They are excited to meet you. Stop worrying so much. When they see how much I love you, they will love you too. Don't worry."
Amber nodded, smiling a little at Jack. She pulled away when the Doctor strolled in.
"Hello there, Jack! How are you feeling today?" He asked in his gruff voice.
He walked over and pulled back the sheets to look at his bandaged waist. Jack sat up, wincing a bit as he carefully pulled off his shirt.
"A little sore today to be honest, but it's not terrible."
