"Do what you do.
Do what makes you unique.
Do what makes you HAPPY."
- Sean William McLoughlin

Chapter Two

The classes seemed to drag on and on as the day went. After the incident in first period, Amber was reluctant to run into this green haired student. His eyes met hers only for a few moments before she turned away in embarrassment. That was enough.
Clutching her sketchbook, she went to her last period. The room was erupted in laughter and chaos. Paper balls were flying left to right and some papers were scattered on the floor.
The teacher wasn't in class yet as Amber found a seat and sat down. She kept to herself, listening to her music and opening her book. She looked down at her unfinished drawing, picking up her pencil. She did manage to see the color of his eyes.
Blue, but not just any type of blue. She captured the dazed look in his eyes. The color reminded Amber of the ocean. It was her favorite place to be. Her pencil outlined his dark eyebrows and his relaxed jaw a little darker to emphasize it.
She smiled a little to herself, she liked this one. Before she could finish sketching his glasses, someone pushed off her other books. She jumped as it slammed on the ground, obviously startled by such a sudden noise.
Looking up, she saw two guys and two girls. The girls were snickering and standing in front of her desk. The two guys were on each side of her. Amber adjusted her glasses and looked at them confused. One of the guys with his hand on her desk pointed at her. His hair was shaved, the top kept straight and long. He had dark green eyes and a beautiful smile.
He was wearing a jersey uniform and the vibe that came off of him was obviously a jock. That goes the same for the other three that stood beside him smirking at Amber.

"That's my seat babe, not yours."

Amber's fist clenched at the nickname the jock had given her. She stayed rooted to her seat, narrowing her eyes at them. One of the girls chuckled and grabbed her sketchbook. When Amber reached out to grab it back, the girl flung it over her shoulder. The book lay open on a random page, a few skittering across the floor.

"Okay, I got the point." Amber mumbled, grabbing her strewn books and moving to another desk in the back.

The guy grinned at her and sat down, talking to his buddies. Amber sighed and sat her stuff down before trying to collect her loose papers. She reached for a last page when someone beat her to it.

"Sorry about those guys, they like to cause trouble. They are kind of assholes." A voice joked, but it was apologetic and gentle.

Amber raised her head and was face to face with the one and only green haired student. She was surprised to hear an Irish accent that rang in his voice. He was a mere few inches from her, making her freeze. He smiled at her, handing her the paper.

"Your drawings are amazing by the way." He said, placing the paper in her hand.

His fingertips dragged across her palm on accident, causing tingles to shoot up her arm. She grabbed the paper and thanked him, stuffing it into her book. Amber cleared her throat and stood up, scratching the back of her neck.

"My name is Jack, by the way! Jack Mcloughlin! It's nice to meet you!" He said cheerfully.

She were surprised by how bouncy and bubbly this guy was. Her eyes drifted to the jersey he was wearing, and his buddies staring at him from across the room. Football player.
He held his hand out, waiting for Amber to hold out hers so she could shake. Well come on, shake his hand and stop staring at him like a weirdo.

"M-My name is...Amber..Amber Brooke."

Jack nodded, shooting her another smile before turning around and heading back to his friends. When Jack made it back to his seat, the rest of the jocks swarmed around him. Amber sat back down, clutching her sketchbook and sighing.
She organized the loose papers once again, her heart stopping when she realized the paper Jack had handed to her was the one of him.
Peeking up at him, he didn't look back or acknowledge her stares. Maybe he didn't see it. Her heart went back to its normal pace, allowing her to breath and take deep breaths. Once class started, Amber tuned everything out. She focused on her drawing instead, it had yet to be finished.
The scratch of a pencil quietly filled her ears as she finished his facial structure and fixed the mistakes she had made. Finally, she blew away the last eraser shavings and stared at her finished piece.
It took half of the class period to finish it. She did admit she was a perfectionist and she tends to take longer to finish a drawing. Even if it's just a sketch. She felt happy, she realized she liked drawing this person, Jack. Amber realized how weird it sounded, even in her own head.
The bell rang unexpectantly, making her snap out of her daze . While the students filed out the door, Amber took her time collecting her things. One of the guys walked past her, bumping his shoulder into her. She fell forward, catching herself clumsily on a desk.

"Oh, my bad. Didn't see you." The guy said, smirking and walking out with his arm around one of the girl's waist.

Amber shook her head and made her way out of the class, getting through the crowd of students to her locker.
She sighed to herself, it seemed like she was already making enemies. Great. She turned on her music while she packed her bag, watching people walk out the front double doors. The hallway was buzzing with noise, all that was ignored the louder she turned her phone up.
Suddenly, she felt a tap on her shoulder, making her turn around. Her eyes widened when she realized it was once again, Jack. Ever since she first saw him, it's like he's been popping up everywhere.
He smiled at her, his smile as cheerful as his personality. She gave him a small smile and took out one of her earbuds. She didn't know why this football player was even talking to her. People like him usually don't talk to people like Amber.

"Hi! We met first period, of course you would remember. I was just wondering if you wanted to maybe walk home together? I saw that you live right across from me, the day you moved in. That sounds creepy, I don't mean that I like watched you or anything.
Also, I wanted to apologize again for my friends being jerks to you last period. I promise they're not like that all the time. Just..most of the time. Anyway, you seemed lonely, and we have the same route, so here I am!" He exclaimed, striking a pose and grinning.

Amber let out a surprised chuckle but her stomach soon filled with dread.

What if this was all a joke?
What if his friends is putting him up to this?

"Um...well I mean I-" Amber fumbled as her sketchbook started slipping.

She looked up when she heard a familiar voice shouting out to Jack. Amber and Jack's heads turned and watched his group come down to meet him. Amber shrunk back, turning to her locker and cursing under her breath.
Jack greeted them with high fives and pats on the backs. Jack seemed to be a very popular dude who had plenty of friends on his list. Plenty of them who already didn't like Amber. Amber stood there, contemplating if she could hide in her locker.

"Hey dude! Come on, the game is tonight and coach is going to kill us if we're late to practice again! What are you even doing hanging out with her? Come on!"

Amber didn't like the way he looked at her. Or the way he talked about her like she wasn't there. She slammed the locker door and walked past them.

"Oh! Girl's got a temper!" A girl from the group shouted out.

Amber could hear the group chuckling a little as she reached he double doors and pushed them out. She thought she could hear someone calling for her, but she continued walking and disappeared out the door. Jack's football buddies nudged him in the ribs and snickered.

"Why are you talking to her? She already seems like a weirdo."

Jack looked over at his friend who was currently making fun of Amber. Jack chuckled lightly, shrugging his shoulders and slinging his duffel bag over one shoulder.

"Her name is Amber. She's not weird, I just wanted to make her first day a good one." Jack stated, walking with the group towards the football field.

One his friends scoffed and looked down at his phone.

"Look at you, being the good guy all the time. Isn't that exhausting? She's just an outcast, don't waste your breath on her. She'll disappear into the crowd of rejects soon enough and you won't even know she's here. Hell, I didn't even know she's here!" The girl commented, placing a hand on Jack's arm and squeezing it.

"Yeah.." Jack said, looking over his shoulder to see if he could see her still.

He caught a glimpse of her back as she turned a corner and disappeared behind the parking lot. Reluctantly, he turned back around and focused on his group of friends.

Eventually, he forgot about the new girl and started joking with his buddies.

After all, it was a big game tonight.
