"I don't understand." I managed to stutter out. Chosen? Why had I been chosen for this kind of life by the likes of Lyus? My hands tensed against my thigh as I tried to fight the uncontrollable ball of emotion that grew within me.
"Years ago, centuries ago our kind had been discovered after the death of my father." Lyus swallowed thickly and within those silver eyes I could see a hint of humanity: pain. "My kind, we were hunted and at the time we were outnumbered. They thought they got rid of us, but in fact the disease had spread further than anticipated. Humans went on with their normal lives, under the guise that we were exterminated and they were safe. But I have only been waiting, waiting for the perfect time to build up and army and emerge again. We are growing in numbers each day and soon we will expose ourselves to the humans and they will bow down to us."
The wolves surrounding us snapped their teeth and growled in approval.
"So you are going to kill innocent people to have power? These humans are not suspicious of werewolves; why can't they go on not knowing and you live as a human?"
"I am what I am!" The rage behind Lyus' words made me shrink back in fear. Noticing my fear, Lyus calmed down, slowly drawing closer to me. "As are you."
"You made me this way," I spat out.
"What do you think drove you to go into the woods that day Lucy? A mere case of curiosity? Why do you think I let you live. You were made for this life. I called for you and you answered. Fate made you how you were supposed to be."
"So what now? Am I supposed to become your . . . your bride and allow you to slay innocent people?"
"Either that or die and I can't allow you to be killed. I can't wait for you again."
"What?"
"You weren't always a human Lucy. Your passion toward wolves was not only because of my attack, but because you are naturally drawn to your kind. I only bit you because this time the wolf gene did not arise within you." I was confused and could feel the information wrapping tight around my brain to the point, I just wanted to sit down with my head between my legs.
"Remember I chose you. I came to you." Lyus voice became distant, his words echoed against my ears. The sound around him reverberated and I found my balance offset. Swooning, I knew what was about to occur. I was going to faint.
I thought I would prefer the dream to what was occurring in the real world, but found that my dream state was just an extension of the real world. I was running through the forest, one that I knew was the very same forest that surrounded Crescent Falls, but things were different. I was different. I knew that I wasn't myself.
Running was difficult, as I found that I was wearing a dress. There were at least three different layers of heavy fabric, making it hard to maintain speed. As the dream became solidified, I became aware of the pounding sound of feet behind me, the yells and as I looked over my shoulder I could see the faces of angry villagers. I was being chased after by a mob. Weapons and lanterns of light were raised above their heads, the light illuminating the anger in their expressions.
Distracted, I tripped over a loose root, howling in pain. My ankle was broken and I knew there was no way that I could get up before the mob reached me. I could feel my fear and the anger within me. It was recognizable and as my body tremored, I knew that I was shaking. Another scream came through me as I found my bones bending back and the fur piercing through my skin. In seconds I was a wolf and my strength had returned to me some. Standing to my feet, I began to run and while I was quicker, I found that I wasn't running toward safety, but my demise. The villagers had come from the front as well.
"Kill it!" Someone yelled and others cheered in agreement. It as if I weren't a person. It as if I were a beast. I growled out, stepping back as I found I was encircled. There was nowhere to run. I would have to fight. I would have to be the beast they made me out to be. Even though I knew I wasn't. A few men came forth, silver daggers in their hands and gleaming under the moonlight. I snarled. The men rushed me and I pounced forward. The dagger burned as it went through my chest, straight into my heart. I heard a howl, and knew it wasn't my own, several howls erupted after that.
A gasp went through the crowd and screams of fear. Pounding paws could be heard until coming to a halt. I felt safe, even as my spirit dwindled away, I felt safe knowing that I was surrounded by other wolves. Blood seeped into the ground beneath me. Through a daze I could see a black wolf, strong and powerful. It looked back at me; bright silver eyes alit with pain. The look on his face was of sadness and deep in my chest, I could feel my pain softened.
A sound shot through the air; a bullet had graced Lyus' ear. Howling, Lyus growled and as if on command, he and the other wolves attacked the humans. Many of them ran, but not all survived the wrath of Lyus and the pack.
I could feel myself longing to stay alive, as if clinging to Lyus. The thought of leaving him hurt. But I couldn't stop it. I was going, going, and going. . .
I awoke with my back pressed against a warm body, an arm wrapped tight around mind. Stirring, I sat up and looked over my shoulder to find Lyus. Half his face was covered by shadow, but the last of the fire illuminated half his face. He was handsome and he looked so peaceful. I knew that I had to get away. I had to find Mason and tell him about everything. I drew back, starting to move away when Lyus opened his eyes. My breath hitched.
"She was killed, your mate." I said, suddenly not moving.
"You were killed." Lyus softly said his voice rough from sleep.
"That's not me. I'm not her."
"Yes you are Lucy. Her spirit is inside of you." I shook my head and quickly stood, only matching half the speed of Lyus. He quickly drew me into him, his hand pressed against my lower back.
"No it isn't. I do not want to be what you want."
"Do you think you can deny me?" The way he said it made it seem like there was no choice. Lyus pressed me against him closer, his other hand reaching up and pressing against the back of my neck. I opened my mouth to respond yes, but found my reply silenced as Lyus pressed his lips against mine. My whole body became paralyzed. A warmth seized through as a shock erupted at my heart. It was as if some part of me, a part I never knew existed that lay dormant, was now alive.
I didn't want to like this. Every part of me knew that this was wrong, that this would only complicate things further.
But I couldn't push away and before long I found myself kissing Lyus back.
:x guys don't hate me for taking it down this road D: but it was necessary lol. It's not that old when you think about it XD c'mon it's Bella and Edward ! ahaha but no seriously, tell me what you think of this chapter. What are your thoughts on how the events will play out?
