Watch Tower
July 4th."Bats!" Tempest called walking towards Batman in the control room. "Tempest." He acknowledged typing in character as he watched the virtual screen in front of him. "So Robin's excited?" Tempest asked. A small smile formed on his lips. "Overwhelmed." Batman replied. "The purple Streak?" Batman asked. "Out of her mind." Tempest grinned. "Speaking of, could you do me a favour?" Tempest asked her eyes trailing off to the screen. "Hmmm." Batman said eyes fixed on the headline. "Could you and Flash pick her up?" Tempest asked. He turned to face her. "Didn't you promise to do that?" he asked raising his eyebrows. "Nah, its fine. She's a big fan of Flash and practically adores you. I won't be missed." Tempest said shrugging. "Tempest, she needs her sister." Batman said. "I have stuff to do anyways. Just tell her I have Urgent League business or something." Tempest said.
Kaewa waited arms crossed in front of her as she leaned against the isle rack staring at the door of the quick-stop of the old gas station, abandoned for about three years now. She was wearing her costume and she held the mask tightly in her hand. She was excited, there was no denying that. Kylin would pick her up soon and they would be off starting a team for the apprentices. The excited part of her couldn't stay still, wondering how to greet her sister. The impatient part of her dissolved the point. Tempest was late, very late. She heard the sound of a vehicle pull up in front of the quick-stop and the engine's sound died away. She almost jumped out of excitement, her heart pounding hard against her ribs. Two pairs of footsteps approached the closed sign on the door. The foggy material of the glass door allowed her to make out the outline of their bodies. Her heart sank. "Why are we here?" Robin asked as two more sets of footsteps approached the door and lightning crackled around them. "You didn't go in yet?" Flash asked. "We were waiting for you." Batman replied. Kaewa saw Kid Flash's had go for the door knob and she put her mask on using her Streak speed. The door swung open and Kaewa grabbed her Nike bag that she had tossed on the floor and walked towards them. "We are late." She said pretending to be impatient so as to hide her disappointment. Her sister wasn't coming to pick her up. The other Leaguers had come for their apprentice. Kaewa walked out the door leaving Robin and Kid Flash stared at her. "The purple Streak?" Kid Flash asked wide-eyed. "Just the Streak." Kaewa corrected as she kept walking not bothered to turn to look at them. "Tempest couldn't make it she had..."Batman began. "Urgent league business." The Streak completed stopping in her tracks. "Wait! Tempest was supposed to pick you up?" Robin asked in awe. "She is legendary." Robin said. "She is awesome." KF agreed. The Streak looked at them hard and they stopped talking and looked at the ground. "When you see her, tell her that excuse is getting real old." The Streak said turning her head slightly to look at Batman. "Oh and by the way..."she said as she resumed walking away. "I quit." She said. She Streak speeded leaving the four heroes in astonishment. "I thought the Streak was a dude." Kid Flash said quietly.
Washington D.C.
July 4th.Batman and Robin, Green Arrow and Speedy, Aqua man and Aqualad, Flash and Kid Flash entered the Hall of Justice with the crowds cheering behind them. Kaewa stood in the glass balcony among the crowds in her civilian clothes. She had reached the mansion upset when she realized that she didn't need her sister or her approval to be one of the good guys. She had done a pretty good job on her own without any one's guidance. So maybe she should continue that way and even solve cases of the team before they did. She couldn't hear anything through dense glass so she kept her eyes on them. Speedy seemed to be shouting at them annoyed. 'Join the club.' She thought. Aqua man said something and Speedy pointed towards the glass balcony. Kaewa ducked quickly hoping not to be seen and pretended to tie her shoe lace to ward off suspicion of the people around her. She got back up after some time to see Speedy trying to convince Aqualad, Robin and Kid Flash. Speedy was soon storming out of the room and he threw his cap on the floor. 'Two quits in one day? Not a great start.' Kaewa thought to herself preparing to leave. An alarm went off "All visitors must leave immediately" a robotic voice sounded and ushers began to move the people out through the exit. Kaewa ducked behind a row of seats and waited there until the ushers had closed the door and left. Kaewa peeked through the glass and saw Superman and Zatara on the screen alerting them on a mission. Soon batman and the leaguers left leaving behind the apprentices. They began to talk amongst themselves and Robin began to hack into the computers. He pulled up a picture on screen with information on the site. "Project Cadmus. Genetics Lab. In D.C." it read. She stared at it. The place looked oddly familiar. They began to discuss it among themselves before running out of the building. Kaewa turned around and tried to open the door. It was bolted from the outside. She held the knob and began to vibrate her hands fast enough so that the screws all jolted out and the door knob came out entirely. She dropped it on the floor and left the building following the other three from a distance.
They reached the Cadmus lab. Kid Flash ran ahead just as there was another explosion and two of their scientists began to fall. He grabbed them and ran back up and threw them onto the roof. Kid Flash slipped on the water the firemen had been using to put out the fire and hung from the balcony. "Hey, it's what's his name. Flash boy." A fire fighter yelled pointing at the apprentice. "Kid Flash." He corrected. "Why is that so hard?" he asked himself but loud enough for everyone to hear. "So smooth." Robin grinned. "Does he always have to run ahead? We need a plan. We ne..." Aqualad was saying but Robin had already ran towards the fire truck with his signature laugh filling the air and shot his rappelling gun and swung onto the balcony from which Kid Flash was dangling. He helped Kid Flash up and they ran in together. Aqualad rolled his eyes. "I need to borrow that." He said and controlled the water into a tornado with him atop it and he reached the roof. "Step aboard. Now." he commanded. The scientists got on the shaky water tornado. As he began to lower them, he got off at the balcony and sent them all the way down, setting them on the ground gently. He ran inside in search of Robin and the kid. "Appreciate the help." Aqualad said sarcastically. "You handled it. Besides' we are here to investigate." Robin said hacking the computer. Kid Flash was speed reading through the hard copy files in the cabinet. Aqualad headed towards the door. "Poetic justice, remember?" Robin grinned. Aqualad heard a noise and turned around. The elevator doors were closing with a strange looking creature in it. "There was something in the..." Aqualad began "Elevators should be locked down." Kid Flash said suddenly beside him. Robin ran to the elevator and the others followed. He pressed the buttons. "This is wrong." Robin said stepping backwards. He raised his left arm to his face and began typing at the key pad under the glove and a screen projected above it. "Thought so. This is a high speed express elevator. This doesn't belong in a two storey building." Robin said. "Neither does what I saw." Aqualad said walking towards the elevator door. He pulled open the doors. "And that's why they need an express elevator." Robin said looking all the way down to more than fifty levels below them. He shot his rappelling gun at the ceiling and began to descend rapidly. Aqualad and Kid Flash followed right behind. Robin's rope ended at sub level 26. "I'm at the end of my rope." He said. That never happens. He swung himself and sat at the ledge. Aqualad jumped on to the ledge and helped Kid Flash onto it. Robin typed in more characters on his key pad. "By passing security. There. Go." He said and Aqualad opened the elevator doors. They spilled out into the floor. It was a massive red hall with metal containers on one side. "Welcome to project Cadmus." Robin said in awe. Kid Flash began to super speed his way to get a good look ahead. "Wait." Aqualad began. Kid Flash heard the approaching footsteps of something that had to be a group of giants. He tried to stop but slipped on the floor and skidded right in the centre of the corridor. He looked up to see a herd of mammoth sized creatures he had never seen before. The creatures were looking straight ahead at their destination. One of them was about to put his foot down...on Kid Flash. He didn't have enough time to react. Suddenly a Streak of purple sped past Robin and Aqualad and pulled up Kid Flash and they flattened themselves against the wall. "You cool?" the Streak asked as she watched the creatures in front of her. "Yeah." Kid Flash nodded. The two speedsters waited a second to get their heart beat back to its normal rhythm before they ran towards Aqualad and Robin. Aqualad looked at the new comer. "Streak." She introduced herself waving her hand. "Aqualad." He replied. They turned back to the scene unfolding in front of them. "Whoa!" The four of them stared at the giant creatures. A tiny creature sitting on the shoulder of one of the mammoth like creatures looked at the four of them. The tiny creature had horns at the side of his head and it glowed red. "No. Nothing odd here." Aqualad said sarcastically as they watched the last of the creatures leave.
