7-DENIAL.

Mount Justice
August 19th    

“Initiate Combat training.” Computer sounded as Superboy and Calder took their positions. “3,2,1.” The computer counted down and the two ran at each other. Superboy threw a punch which Aqualad ducked before throwing his own punch which superboy blocked with his hand. Calder threw another punch with his other hand and jumped in the air to deliver a back kick which hit Superboy’s upper arm. Superboy threw a powerful punch which Calder dodged by making a perfectly landed back flip. Artemis and  Megan stood outside the training area watching them. “Calder is um… nice, don’t you think?” Artemis asked suddenly, hoping she could set the two up to get Superboy for herself. “Handsome, commanding, you should totally ask him out.” Artemis completed with her arms folded. Kaewa smiled from the corner of the room where she was working on her computer. “He’s like a big brother to me. But you know how would make the cutest couple? You and Wally.” Megan said. They turned to look at him stuffing his face with a sandwich. “You’re so full of passion and he’s so full of…” Megan began but her voice faltered as she searched for the word. “It?” Artemis offered. The two burst out laughing. Kaewa looked up from her computer with a glare and the two stopped. Calder and Superboy caught a hold of each other finally and Superboy tackled him and threw him over. “Black Canary taught me that.” He grinned as the holo-screen displayed Aqualad: Status- Failed. Superboy helped Calder up. “So what’s with her and Wally?” Artemis asked whispering softly. “Oh, they’re just best friends…looking out for each other.” Megan smiled. She adored their friendship. The way they would go at it with each other but when trouble came along they would stick their necks out for the other. Kaewa seemed to have such a relation with Calder, Robin and Superboy as well, like they were siblings. The steel hatch above the training room opened and Tornado flew in. Kaewa shut her laptop and placed it on the ground and rose up and ran towards him just as Wally ran up too.  “Do you have a mission for us?” Wally asked looking at Tornado while he tossed a bag of chips at Kaewa who caught it without even looking as she stared at Tornado in apprehension. The two had a language of their own. “Mission assignments are the Batman’s responsibility.” Tornado replied. “Yeah but the Batman is with the Robin doing the dynamic duo thing in Gotham.” KF reasoned. “But you are headed somewhere right? Hot date? Or a mission?” KF asked pointing both his index fingers at Tornado. “You can go freely on the hot date if you give us the mission.” Kaewa grinned. “If we can be of help…” Calder cut in giving the speedsters a look. Kaewa shrugged and raised both her hands in surrender. Red Tornado turned to the holo-screen and the image of a man popped up and the whole team gathered around. “This is Kent Nelson. A friend, he is 106 years old,” Tornado said. “Guy doesn’t look a day over 90.” KF whispered. “And he has been missing for 23 days. Kent was a charter member of the Justice Society, the precursor to your mentors Justice League.” Tornado said and the man’s image turned in a man wearing a blue and golden costume with a golden helmet. “Of course! Nelson was Earth’s sorcerer supreme. He was doctor fate.” Calder said. “Pfft…more like doctor fake. Guy knows a little advanced science and Dumbledores it up to scare the bad guys and get the babes.” Wally whispered. “Kent may simply be on one of his…walkabouts. But he is care taker to the helmet of Fate, the source of the doctor’s mystic might and it is unwise to leave such power unguarded. ” Red Tornado said turning to face them. “He is like the great sorcerer priests and priestesses in Mars! I would be honoured to help find him.” Megan said. Kaewa stuck out three fingers and counted it down, just as she hit one, “Me too.” Wally said as his hand shot up in the air and Kaewa made a fist and pulled it downwards in triumph. He had done exactly as she thought he would.  He walked forward. “So honoured I can barely stand it. Magic rocks.” Wally said. Kaewa saw Artemis’ narrow her eyes unbelievingly at him. “Take this. It is the key to the tower of fate.” Red Tornado said producing a golden key with inscriptions on it and handed it to Calder. “What are the chance that we both so admire the mystic arts?” Wally said flirting with Megan. “None Wally! None whatsoever.” Kaewa said rolling her eyes as she walked past him.
