Tyler POV
This is the fourth time he's stood me up. The first time I waited for an hour. The second time, 45 minutes. I was left in the rain on the third, awaiting a car to pick me up that never came. It seemed that his friends were more important than his boyfriend, but I couldn't just give him up. After three years of seemingly happy dating it seemed like a waste. So here I was, sat in a cafe at the side  of a rain drenched, empty road, with strangers shooting me sympathetic looks. Pity.

The waitress came over for the third time. I could practically feel the pity roll off of her as she stood over my table. I kept my eyes down, not daring to look up. I knew that if I looked up I would only be greeted with sympathy and disappointment. 'Are you sure you don't want to order anything yet, Sir?'
'No.' I was determined to wait for him. He's just late, traffic must be really bad, I told myself. The waitress walked away. My eyes remained glued to the table, refuse to even chance raising my head. I didn't want pity. I deserved this. It was my fault for being so shy and not wanting to kiss and hold hands in front of people with him. It was my fault for driving him away. I could feel hot tears burning behind my eyes, and I forced them to subside, not wanting to be weak in front of the whole cafe, who were certainly not being very subtle in their staring.

The shop door opened. I didn't look up, I knew it wasn't him. I heard footsteps getting closer and closer until they stopped. Right next to my chair. Next thing I knew, a soft kiss was being pressed to my cheek and 'I'm sorry I'm late babe, the traffic was awful.' Loud enough for the whole cafe to hear. I didn't recognise the voice. I slowly raised my eyes to see a boy I had never seen before. He had brightly coloured pink hair, brown eyes and I noticed that his ears were slightly stretched. He was cute- wait no, I have a boyfriend.

Or do I? Because honestly, it doesn't feel like it anymore. I just stared as the unknown boy sat down opposite me. He lowered his voice. 'My name is Josh, just go with it. Whoever stood you up is an asshole.' I couldn't believe the fact that this complete stranger had decided that I was sad enough to require company.

'My name is Tyler, and I'm sorry but I don't need your pity, you can go back to your seat now.' I was surprised by how cold my quiet voice was when it left my throat.  Josh's face dropped and he reached his hand across the table and grabbed my own. I tried to free my hand from his tight grip, but he was unyeilding. 'I'm not pitying you.' His yes were boring into my own, and they were sincere. 'I've been sitting, hiding, in the corner for a good hour, trying to build up the courage to come talk to you. After a while, I realised that your partner wasn't coming, so I climbed out of the bathroom window to come in again and save you from the embarrassment. And also the possibility of a date with a cute boy like you was too hard to resist.' My eyes were burning again.

Someone I didn't even know had done so much purely so I wouldn't have to sit alone for another hour, because that is what I would have done. I squeezed his hand slightly. 'Thank you.' I whispered. Josh just nodded. He called the waitress over, and she came all smiles and happiness that I was finally sitting with a partner, even though it wasn't the one I expected. We placed our orders.

Over two hours later, we left the cafe hand in hand, after one of the best dates I'd ever been on. Even if it was fake. Josh's hand didn't leave mine as I had expected, instead his fingers remained laced with mine. 'So, Ty, I had fun.' I blushed at the nickname. HE never called me anything other than Tyler. 'Me too.' I replied. His hand squeezed mine slightly harder. I could feel him looking at me, so I raised my head to look into his eyes. They were really pretty. 'So my phone number is in your back pocket, we should probably do this again because I really like you and I'd rather not climb out of any more bathroom windows so what I'm kind of trying to say is will you go out with me plea-' He was cut off by my arms being thrown around his neck.
'Yes you idiot.' I said, slightly muffled by his shoulder. I heard him chuckle and wrap his arms around my waist, holding me close to his chest. I had decided a long time ago I was going to break it off with Him, even if me and Josh didn't go any further. I knew that Josh wouldn't treat me the way He did, wouldn't ditch me for his friends when we had a date. I didn't know how, but I just knew I would be happier with Josh.
