That thing that happened in the cabin changed the relationship between Shay and I. We weren't like close friends as before.
You could say it was my fault. I started to keep away from him after that day. I just don't know how to face him again. Therefore, there is something more important than worrying about this.
The Albany Congress. It is where the assassins could have a chance to recover the manuscript. And it was heavily guarded by the templar troops.
I stood on the rooftops, birdwatching Benjamin Franklin lecture about his view in politics. Then, I caught a glimpse of Shay blending into the crowds.
A man approached Franklin when he finished his speech. They talked about the precursor box, also about the manuscript. I didn't hear other words clearly, but I do hear him yell at his subordinate, "Run to Fort Frederick and tell master Wardrop he had better cough up that manuscript post-haste! Else I will have him scalped!"
As soon as the man left, I saw Shay chasing the subordinate, trying to stop him before he reaches the fort. But there are also guards in distance that he didn't notice.
"Sorry, Shay. I'll take that one. " I whispered and put my hood on. I followed the subordinate on the rooftops as Shay was down below stuck in a fight.
I ran swiftly and took a leap on the eaves, triggering my hidden blade at the same time. I intervened the main mission though I was tasked to keep James Wardrop from escaping.
Shay looked at me shocked when I stood up while he was still there dealing with the templars. I let out a smile and gave him a salute. The Brotherhood doesn't encourage assassins to complete missions for others, but I don't care, he needs help. I can't just stand there and watch him fail the mission.
I ran straight forward to Fort Frederick, leaving Shay behind. Several guards in front started to run towards me. They weren't as many as those who attacked Shay. I dogged their attacks easily after a few clangs on the sword.
I started to enter the fort, getting a step closer to Wardrop. The guards of Fort Frederick were careless as usual. I could slip aside them and kill them without getting noticed.
Finally, I located him and injured him with a throwing knife. The guards wanted to end me, but they failed again.
I walked near the heavily injured man and took the manuscript from him.
"With this, the assassins could save the world from the templars." I told myself.
"Do you really think so, kid?" Wardrop smirked scornfully, trying to lift himself up, "the truth may not be such easy as you think."
I bent down and grabbed his collar, "Spit out what you know, you jerk!"
"If you recall the case of the earthquake at Port-au-Prince..." He took a small breathe, struggling but continue saying, "the assassins... they triggered it."
He died after the reveal. I had to know if he is telling the truth.
But now I couldn't think of anything to say. I dropped his body back and stepped backwards as I bumped into someone's chest.
It was Shay. I knew it.
Before I could turn back, before I could say a word, his rough hands turned me to face him. Grabbing my shoulders, he questioned, "WHY DID YOU DO THAT??"
I was scared. He had never been so angry at me before. "Y-you were in a hard fight... I-I thought that would help you out." I shrugged my shoulders. This is the only answer I could respond.
"I DON'T NEED your help!" He roared, "I know how things work in the Brotherhood and I COULD do missions even without you! You DISRESPECTED me!" He turned firmly and started to leave.
I had to follow him, even that I wanted to dig a hole and hide myself. Now don't have other time thinking about his feelings, I just wish he won't tell Achilles about this.
"Um... Shay...?" I called him. Though we're in an intense moment, I still want to ask him about what the templar had just said, "Did you heard what Wardrop mentioned before he died?"
"..."
He ignored me.
We then met Liam, he told us we needed to get to Hope immediately. She has further business to do with Benjamin Franklin, and will need our help.
"Won't you come with us?" I asked Liam.
"No, I have to see Achilles." He said, "You'll be fine with Shay." Giving me a Pat on the back.
Liam left with sincere blessings, little did he know what just happened between us.
As Shay took the wheels of the Morrigan, I helped the crew some basic work. Obviously Shay didn't want to talk to me, then fine. I'll make him talk first.
