The Old and Tech

So all right, I'm not a major computer whiz. I do okay and I survive.

I went over to my in laws today to look at their computer for them. They don't do much on their PC. Email, general web surfing. That's about it.

To give you an idea of how old their computer is ... it's running Windows Vista. No shit, I'm serious. I told them last time I was over there they needed to buy a new one because the browsers won't update anymore because of Windows 10 and basically everything is going to stop working.

Did they listen, no.

Anyway, my mother in law wanted a new song put on her iPod. ITunes wanted to update (of course, my luck) so I updated it. Which means the computer needed to restart. *bam* restart and the thing suddenly decided it needs a password to get in. Like what? Seriously? He hasn't had an administrator password in the like 15 million years he's owned the thing!!!!!!

So I look up on my phone how to bypass the PW and get into the computer ... start the computer in safe mode it says. Guess what? It refuses to start in safe mode.

So here I am trying to explain to him that he needs to get someone out to bypass the password thing because I can't do it. And then they really need a new computer because if it ever restarts again it might do this again.

He looks at me and goes, "But if we get a new computer will it still do this."

I stare a moment and I'm all, "No because it will be a new computer." (Imagine me explaining this very slowly like I'm talking to a small child because that's basically what it sounded like)

Him: "Yeah but ..."

Me (stopping him before I die from frustration): "It's a totally new computer that's completely separate from this. It won't have this problem."

Trust me it was hard not to snap and let the sarcasm through. I've explained things like this before. We also had brought a laptop with to try and print some things for my mother in law while I was working on their computer. So we had it plugged into the printer while this was going on and she was all. "Is this going to hurt your laptop."

"Um, no it's plugged into the printer for one. And two, that has nothing to do with it since it's not a virus."

By the time we left both of us were so so done.
