Many of you have probably seen the little pop-up asking you to sign up for Wattpad's new premium account. If you haven't yet, trust me you will at some point.
There was, at one point, a survey about the coming accounts. Asking people what they thought about it. Which I thought was ridiculous. Apologies to Wattpad, but it is. As I've discovered (from a friend of mine) you can add for free an ad-blocker to your browser. Check the extensions setting on your browser, search the ad-blockers, nearly all of them have them and they're free to add on. Also, look into adding a tracker blocker as well since Wattpad has dozens of those little buggers following you around as well. Ghostery is good one.
All in all the so called premium account is a giant joke. It isn't premium in any way, generally a premium account gives the users something they can't get on a non-premium account. Since you can get no ads but putting an ad-blocker on your browsers for free that makes Wattpad's so-called premium account one bigass rip off. Wouldn't you agree?
They're asking you for money you do not have to pay them, for something you can get for free. It's just another thing they can try and grab money for. Why? Because we've found a way around they ads they thought people would click on and they would get paid for. So, now they want another way to get money for them, only this time they're going to get paid for us avoiding them.
Hey Wattpad, instead of that crap, how about offering the users a REAL premium account we might ACTUALLY want?
Like maybe with some real features people have been asking for?
Give us some options ...
Unlimited Characters: an about me with more characters or unlimited characters, especially for published or self-published authors
Friendlier Profile: a customizable profile where we can move things around and have more design options, like being able to feature more of our stories.
Links Box: for authors, bloggers, artists, or those who need more places to feature links. You seriously don't provide enough places for links and using the about me for links eats up the limited character space we have.
Ability to Announce: the ability to have some sort of 'status' on our profile to make important announcements about our works so people visiting our profile will immediately see it, that would be nice. Like it would be right at the top or right under our header. Something where we could announce updates or something like that.
*** Small update ... though I still believe premium is a giant ripoff ... since the premium accounts have premiered they've added the option to "pick your theme color". WHOOOO! You might notice the GIANT box with colored circles in it at the bottom of your profile. Basically it makes everything that is orange on the regular account whatever color you pick. So ... for your 60-freaking-dollars a year, you get no ads and can change your theme color. Still not premium. Sorry Wattpad, nice try but you're still falling short of the mark (really flipping short).
