I kinda expected the morning after, or night after if I may, to be awkward and somewhat difficult to handle - but this was completely different. This felt physically worse than anything I've ever gone through with the exception of getting shot. I felt worse than dead, almost inhuman - no pun intended. The veins in my arms were thick and painful, and I was overwhelmed with the feeling of walking on pins and needles. You know that numb feeling you get when an arm or leg falls asleep, on this felt like the pins and needles were on fire. Don't even get me started on the weight of an elephant sitting on my chest.

"Akila," I rasped out, weakly dragging my hand across the mattress to shake her awake. Even turning my head was painful. "Akila wake up."

She was sleeping on her stomach, pressing her face into a pillow. She pried an eyelid open and turned towards me, and I flinched away from her - nearly falling off the bed. "Iris, what're you -"

"Your eyes," I sputtered. "Akila, your eyes are bright red!" I was used to seeing them fade into their golden color, that wasn't a problem. But to see them so red, the color of blood, had me scared. It was as if the blood vessels in her cornea had completely burst. "What's going on?"

She pressed a palm to my cheek to steady my trembling and tore away from me just as quick. "Iris you have to go, right now. Get up and get dressed." She pushed herself off the bed with some effort and stumbled out of the room, pushing off of the walls and door frame to keep balance. She returned with a bag of blood from the freezer and tore it open. "Drink this, it'll give you a boost until you can get an actual fix."

My eyes danced between the meal she held and her own eyes. She shoved it into my hands after taking a sip. "Akila what're you talking about? Why do I have to go?"

She busied herself with rummaging through her closet for a new outfit and I guess to pack herself a bag. I took a drink, and my powers weren't even disturbed. I dragged myself from bed, tossing the empty bag away from me, and grunted as I collapsed to the floor until I could get my bearings. She pulled on a jacket and some shoes. "Iris just trust me on this, okay? I'll explain it later but you have to go."

She tossed my clothes at me and made her way into the kitchen again. "Akila..." Nonetheless I dressed myself as best and as quickly as I could. "Where am I gon' go?"

"Iris," she breathed, and she approached me, tears in her eyes and all. Her palm met my cheek again. "I need you to disregard everything that's ever happened to us up until this point. Trust me when I say this is for the best. I need you to leave the country right now. Don't go home. Call Kane, and go as far as you possibly can."

Her tears were nothing but blood as I swiped them away. "Will I ever see you again?"

She retracted her hand slowly and looked elsewhere. "Iris please go before it's too late."

"Wait!" I panicked, and we both knew this was coming. I didn't do well under pressure most times. I was past hyperventilating. This was me trying to keep breath in my lungs. "I - I can't just...fuck, I love you. It'll be okay, right?"

"Iris, please go..." She held the front door open for me. I dragged my feet and stepped across the threshold. She didn't even bother to close the door, she continued on with collecting things into her bag. But I knew I had to go.

This was the end of us.

I regretted sleeping with her. Not the act itself - I wasn't stupid. But what came after and what we ruined by doing so. Our foundation completely crumbled, and I knew we would never be the same. Part of me felt like she felt like I did and she also knew we could never go back to once was, which was why she didn't say she loved me back. Shit hurt like hell, but I knew this wasn't the time to be mushy gushy.
