My Lullaby: Chapter One

Amelia Coutur came home from her school. She had plans to stay after and help with her school's drama club. They were getting ready to starre their own play of the famous "The Christmas Carol" but her parents had told she had to come home, that eight hours at school was good enough time to being away from home. Even enough time to hang out with her friends and do extra circular activities.

When she opened the front door she encountered her little fluffy Pekingese named Belle. Of course, her mom had named the little pup after the movie stars' from Twilight. Her mom was obsessed with the books and the movie along with the celebrities that play in the movies. Ever since the movie had come out, she gotten all the books and read them all. She even contacted the author for the final, "Midnight Sun". She had decided waiting was not an option.

Amelia didn't really mind her mom's obsession, though it seems that everyone was obsessed with the saga. She didn’t understand why they were so into it, the movies completely sucked. In her opinion, the books are way better. She guessed people liked the visual effects of pale looking humans that would sparkle in sunlight and hairy, stunt men that transformed into digitally, oversized, steroid induced wolves.

She walked into her home, closing the door after saying hello to Belle. As soon as the door closed a voice boomed through the house, the voice shouting her name. She signed and headed up the spiral staircase toward the voice that was yelling for her. She guessed the only good thing about living in luxury and a big house was she could take her time reaching her parent's room. Blame it on the house being so big for her taking her time.

When she entered her parent's room, she saw her mom dressed up in a long black strapless evening gown. Her mom was at the mirror putting on a long string of diamond earrings. She wrinkled her nose in suspicion and confusion. She didn't know where her mom was going and wondered where she would be going in such a fancy dress. Suddenly her step-dad's voice boomed in the room. She stepped forward out of the door way to look at her step-dad, who walked out of his closet wearing a black tux with a navy blue, stripped tie and polished, black shoes. His hair was combed back and he glared down at her with his stern eyes as he firmly said, “Your mother and I are going to Miss. Levee's Christmas party. We'll be back late so don't stay up late and there's some organic chicken in the fridge for your dinner." he said as he stepped forward to stand next to my mother and to put on his silver watch. Miss. Levee's Christmas party was the biggest one in their neighborhood. Everyone went to that party, everyone that was rich and snobby.

"What about Le-" she was cut off by her step-dad. "Zachary is going out to a party. Lenee is staying with her fancièe. And no you can't go anywhere you have to look after Belle." That was just an excuse she knew that much and she really didn't mind. It was always like this.

She nodded and bit her lip. It was another night of boring mtv shows and sleeping. Her step-father looked at her with a look saying what are you still doing here. She signed as she turned around and left the room heading for her own. She closed her door and stripped out of her school uniform changing into some booty shorts and oversized t-shirt that had the band's name Alesana on it. It was her favorite band and she smiled at seeing the name on the shirt. She grabbed a blanket from her bed and headed down stairs. Belle barked as she began to follow Amelia’s blanket’s tail. She went all the way down to the basement right as her mother called out, “We are going now, honey! bye!"

She mumbled to herself a bye. She then turned the TV on to mtv's sixteen and pregnant and sank on to the couch wrapping the blanket around herself as her dog jumped up and cuddled at her feet. She smiled petted Belle before yawning and turning to lie down on the couch, waiting until she fell asleep.

Amelia opened her eyes slowly. She was confused at why she was awake and where she was. She slowly got her surroundings noticing she was on the black leather couch down stairs in her house's basement. She groaned as she sat up looking around for her dog. She couldn't find her but she could hear her. Her loud barking was on the stairs. Amelia rubbed her head as she stood up and walked up the stairs where her dog sat barking at the closed door that kept her from the main floor. "What are you barking a little Belles?" she asked as she picked up her dog and rubbed her fur trying to calm her down.

As she opened the door she remembered a loud bang in her sleepy haze when waking up. She shivered as she began to get scared stepping into her kitchen. It was completely dark and she bit her lip as she found the kitchen's light turning it on. As the kitchen brightened she half expected to see a bloody murder man standing there holding a knife readying to stab the life out of her.

There was no murder there waiting to kill her though. There was nothing just her clean elegant kitchen. She frowned still suspicious as she put Belle down who had quieted but was still antsy. Belle immediately ran toward the living room when her feet touched the ground and Amelia bit her lip as she walked slowly after her dog. The living room was dark also but she could hear a slow heavy breathing besides the fast rapid breathing of her dog. She slowly stepped forward following her dog behind the couch where she felt a breeze. She gasped as she saw that the wall length window had been broken, leaving the wall length curtain swinging in the breeze of the night. She looked down behind the couch to see a dark heaving lump among the broken shards of glass...
