Layne
Water splashes on to my face out of nowhere.
"Wha-?"
I wipe the water off with my sleeves and I realise that my hands are shaking.
"Sorry, Layne, but you wouldn't snap out of that daze no matter what I did so I-"
"I have to go."
"No, Layne-"
I push Abbey away, make a beeline for the door. My stomach lurches and I nearly throw up. But I push on and stumble down the stairs. Abbey grabs me but I shrug her off. "Please, I have to go."
"Layne!"
I avoid Abbey's hand and break out into a run, flinging the front door open and tearing down the streets. I run and run and run. I don't know where I'm going, I just know that I need to get away from everyone.
Then I stop abruptly, realising where my feet have taken me.
Death's Drop.
An image of Marlene flashes before my eyes and a wild thought crashes into my mind.
I can repay Marlene for what I did.
A life for a life.
