*Writer's POV*
"Die?" Your voice shook as you asked. Jack walked more quickly, leaving you to stumble and trip on roots and branches.
"Yeah, die. She was trained by Zalgo, what would you think? He trained her all nice, holding back? No, he didn't care if she died." Jack said roughly and turned. A branch caught your (H/C) hair and you untangled it. You ran forward passing Jack, toward the mansion. You busted through the door and stood in the middle of the living room. Everyone's head turned toward you and stared. Sweat ran down your face as you caught your breath.
"(Y/N)?" Slender called your name. You turned and looked up. You jumped back at his sudden presence.
"Wh-what?" You managed to asked.
"Why did you barge in like that?" Slender asked. Jack walked into the Mansion and straight to you.
"Why did you run off like that?" Jack asked sternly. You stepped toward Slender.
"I need to ask you something, Slender." You whispered and looked up at Slender. He simply nodded and placed his hand on your shoulder. You teleported to his room.
"What is it, (Y/N)?" Slender asked as he stepped over to his desk.
"It's about Mari..." You said hastily. "Jack told me she trained with Zalgo." You said before Slender could reply.
"Why is it your business?" Slender asked. You looked at your feet.
"He said, if I were to take that training I would die... Is it really that bad?"
"Zalgo..." Slender mumbled in deep thought.
"Mari is really talented, like I can't hear her movements at all!"
"Yes, the training is very difficult. I don't know the exact details, but I'm sure anyone else would have died if they were trained like that." Slender trailed off and continued. "She had gone through many fatal trials to complete such training. It's surprising she can't still talk, walk or even smile after that." Your eyes widened in fear. Is it that bad? You thought.
"Is that it?" Slender asked. You nodded and left his room. Jack was waiting outside, tapping his foot.
"You asked Slender about Mari, huh?" Jack asked and started walking down the hall. You nodded and followed.
"Mari said you can stay in her room for as long as you need until we find you a room." Jack said blankly as he walked up some stairs.
"Is that what she whispered to you back in her room?" You asked quietly. Jack looked back at you.
"Yeah... Sure." Jack said with a dry voice. Jack walked you to Mari's door and nodded.
"If you need anything, my room is across from here." Jack said and entered his room. You knocked on Mari's door and got no reply.
"Mari?" You called out. No answer. You look at the wall and saw it was 7:34 pm. You called her name again and there was still no response. She should be here by now. You opened the door quietly and looked inside. The lights were out and it was pitch black. You walked in blindly and searched for the light switch on the wall. You found it and flipped it on. The light stung your eyes. You looked around and saw something at the corner of the room.
"Mari?" You called her name again, but more quietly. As you neared the corner, you could hear very quiet sobs. "Mari, are you okay?" You asked gently.
"Jeff?" She lifted her head slowly and turned slightly. Her face wasn't visible through her hair. You stopped stepping closer, confused.
"I'm not Jeff..." You said carefully. "It's me, (Y/N)..." You crouched beside, not knowing what to say. Mari tilted her head toward you. You caught a glimpse of her face. Dark red streaks came down from her eyes. Tears? You thought. She quickly turned away and wiped her face with her sleeve. She turned to face you again, but this time she smiled.
"Hey, (Y/N)! Sorry you had to see that!" She said with a forced cheerful voice.
"But yo-" I tried to object.
"It's nothing! Really, I'm okay!" She said louder. Mari got up and walked over to her bed. She acted like nothing happened. As if I didn't see anything at all.
"Jack said you're letting me stay here until I get my room." I said, giving up trying to get the truth out of her.
"Oh..." Her smile slipped for a second, but then she smiled again. "Oh! Yeah, I did!"
"Its getting dark outside..." I said trying to make conversation. Mari turned to me and kept her smile.
"Yeah! Is Jack letting you go kill today?" She asked.
"Didn't I miss it already? It's already night..." I mumbled.
"No, we mostly kill at night." She informed you. You nodded and sat on her bed. Can I really ask her about her training? You asked yourself. Mari sat next to you and looked up at the ceiling. She smiled and started to hum.
"Uh, Mari?" You said quietly. She turned to you and stopped humming.
"Yes?"
"How did you train?" You asked slowly. She stared blankly at you.
"Train?" She asked quietly. You nodded and stayed quiet. Mari opened her mouth, but closed quickly. You didn't say anything. You wanted Mari to tell you and you would wait.
"Zalgo..." Mari's voice trailed off. "A year before I came here I became very sick." Mari looked at the ground and sighed. "I was in and out of the hospital. I was barely 14 at the time. The same year I got a vision about coming here to kill." Mari looked at her hands and shook her head. "Zalgo granted me a wish, but it came with a cost. I wished to become healthy again, but the cost was to follow my destiny and not ruin Jeff's.... He was destined to be a killer as well, but since I knew, Zalgo told me to not interfere. I wasn't allowed to warn him or tell him about my fate before he starts to kill." I stared at Mari intently. So she can actually tell the future... I thought.
"As for becoming a killer, I had to endure Zalgo's training. If I didn't survive or follow his rules, he would kill me and Jeff..." Mari trailed off again. "I couldn't let that happen!!" Mari suddenly shouted out, bloody tears ran down her cheeks. "The training ended a few days before that picture was taken. The same week, Jeff disappeared... I'm guessing his time to kill came..." Mari wiped away her tears, leaving her hands stained scarlet. "I don't know if I'll ever find him again..."
"I'll help you find him!" You exclaimed as you stood up and held yourfists up. Mari looked up with a surprised expression. You smiled and pat Mari's head. As you patted her head, just for a second, you saw a young bloodless girl look up at you with tear stained cheeks and a small smile.
