They woke to a banging sound at the door. It sounded frantic and panicked. Vreal headed for the door, Wolf and Ebon following. Shadow quickly went into Little Sister's room, waking her to put the hood on, just in case someone saw her. She was groggy, still asleep even though her eyes were open. Shadow shushed her when she complained, trying to get the jacket on as quickly as he could.
The banging becoming faster as Vreal neared the entrance. When he opened it, he found two soldiers at the door. They looked serious, but their eyes looked scared. Vreal asked if they needed anything, now fully awake after seeing their eyes.
"We are to call all the able men right now. You and your brothers must come with us."
"We have a little sister to take care of," Ebon replied with annoyance. He hated whenever someone woke him before sunrise or before he wanted to wake. "If you want us to come then you'll have to wait until we get her to safety."
"There are no more safe places in your village," One soldier boomed. "Your village is being attacked as we speak."
Shadow had walked out with Little Sister just as the man said that. His face becoming shocked, as did the other three. Little Sister was still waking, rubbing her eye as Maimu sat on her shoulder. One of the soldiers pushed his way in to look at the girl, staying silent. The brothers became very protective, Ebon reaching for a metal rod they had to poke at the fire. Wolf saw and pushed his hand away, but then lowered his own to reach for a stick. They knew what some soldiers would do to girls, and what some would do to little kids.
Little Sister looked back at the man with no fear, being too tired to register who this man was. Shadow held her tightly, taking a step back so he could get a head start if needed be. The soldier noticed and raised his hand for him to stop.
"Don't worry, I won't harm the child, I only wish to have a look at her."
"You can see fine from the doorway." Ebon growled a bit.
The man ignored him, still looking at the girl. He slowly reached up towards her hood, noticing the cat ears swen on. The brothers throught he was going to expose the girl's cat ears and send her into the village to her doom. But he didn't pull the hood back; his hand stopped an inch from it as he looked at the child. Little Sister stared back, her eyes hiding something deep within. The man didn't know what it was, but he slowly lowered his hand back to his side.
"You have a beautiful sister gentlemen," He spoke softly, seeming to remember something in his history. "I will allow one of you boys to take her to safety, where ever that may be, and then return to the village and join the rest of the troops. But only one, if I only see two instead of three of you follows, well, I'd rather not say in front of the girl."
He turned and walked out of the house, the other soldier closing the door to leave the boys in silence. Once it sank in, the boys quickly turned towards each other to start their plan.
"Shadow, since you already have Little Sister, you will take her." Vreal ordered. "Just go into the forest and Laerorneth will find you."
Shadow nodded, walking back into the girl's room and grabbing the bag they had packed for her. The girl was now awake enough to register what was going on and begane to question.
"Brother, where are we going? Where are Nii-sama, Big Brother and V-sama going?"
Shadow didn't speak, rushing back out to the main room. The boys had already gathered what they needed and were ready to head out. Little Sister began to cry a bit, knowing they were going to leave.
"I want to come with you!" She yelled.
Vreal walked up to her, brushing her hair and looking very sorry. "I'm sorry Sister, but you cannot come with us this time. Shadow is going to take you where you can be safe. I promise we will come back for you."
