It had been a hectic couple of days. The four of them had to prepare for the journey. Énna and Xylia were both shocked to hear what the queen had ordered. They never thought the woman would let a child go out into a war in search of her family like this. But they couldn't go against her words, and so they were preparing.
Ivaylo was the most uneasy. Little Sister hadn't a clue as to why, but the other two girls knew. They knew of Ivaylo's past, and where they were going was going to go straight through that part of the land. Still, they had to do this. Once they rescued the girl's brothers, they would come to the forest as well until the war was over.
The night before they were to leave, Énna, Ivaylo and Xylia were meeting with Laerorneth to discuss why they were going on this trip. The three of them sat around the chair the queen sat in as they waited for the woman to speak.
"Little Sister is special. It's obvious she isn't human, part human, maybe, but she's not related to her brothers."
"It's obvious when you know about how these things work. They could be related by one parent, but never by both." Énna explained.
"Yes, but she's not related to them at all."
"Then they adopted her?" Xylia asked. "Why? They already have four children, who are boys, and they were already teenagers by the time she would've been born. Why take on a fifth child?"
"That, I do not have an answer for, Xylia. I don't know everything." Laerorneth replied softly. "But, we know she is special. She has a power within her that is still sleeping. It'll wake as she gets older, but for now, it is dormant."
"So then why send her out there?" Ivaylo asked. "Sure she has us three, but there's only so much we can do to protect the child."
"This is true." The queen sighed. "But she needs her brothers. They are the thing that's anchoring her to this world."
"What do you mean?"
"There's a reason she has all this power. Just like there's a reason there's a war going on."
"You mean to say they're connected?" Énna asked.
"Then why are we sending her out there?" Ivaylo asked as well, standing now. "Why not keep her safe?"
"Because they'll stop at nothing to find her. They'll kill her brothers, and if they do, she'll unleash all her powers. They'll get just what they wanted in the first place."
"Then only we go and get them. Leave Little Sister while we go out there." Ivaylo was trying his hardest to not lose his temper. He knew better, and he tried his hardest.
"Ivaylo, please clam down." Laerorneth replied in a soft voice. "We are sending her out because she knows where they are. Only she can find them. That and she needs to get rid of some of her magic so it doesn't over flow her. If she is out there, yes she'll be scared, but I expect you three to keep her out of the war as much as possible. I am sending her out because she needs to go out and stop this war. It's way too much for a child, but it is what needs to be done."
They all nodded.
"Now, you three need your sleep. Go and rest, I shall wake you all when it is time to go."
They all nodded again and left her room, leaving her alone. The woman glanced up and opened the top to see the stars, reading them like a book.
"The fate of this world lies in the hands of a child who only wants her brothers. Is it too much to ask for someone else that knows better to take her place?"
