He dropped me home and I was still smiling before I fell asleep.
I woke up the next morning to the sound of my phone ringing rapidly. My ears twitch in annoyance as I answer.
"Wake up babe, it's 2 o'clock!" Tilly's shrilly voice chimed over the phone. I glance at the digital clock sitting on my bed side table. In fact she was right, I had already wasted half of my day. But it was worth it!
"So pack your bags now! Your coming for a sleep over, that's well over due!" Her excitement blares down the phone down the phone, filling the silent room.
"Then we can gossip about each others love life?" I could feel her winking as the memory of last night floods back, plastering a wide smile on my face.
"Earth to Kayla. Earth to Kayla." Tilly robotically said pulling me out of the trance. "You still there?"
"Yep" I replied still dazed of my awakening.
"Okay I will come pick you up in a second." Then she hanged up.
I stretched my arms and bounce out of bed, landing on the soft white carpet as I drag the sheets with me.
Lazily I get up, grabbing essentials as I go. In about 5mins, I'm dressed in my summer wear and ready for the night ahead.
I apply a little bit of mascara to distract the bags, under my eyes. As I'm working away a car horn honks, sending my mascara brush flying through the air making a bee line for the carpet.
It lay there in a puddle of leaking mascara making unmistakable stain.
"Shit." I hush, clearly annoyed at myself. I start to vigorously rub at the ugly stain, but it just made it worse. It lay there darkening my mood until Tilly boles in.
"Crap!" Tilly says giving me a sympathetic look. She rushes over trying to clear the stain away.
"Your Mum's going to kill her perfect daughter." Tilly empathises with me.
"Don't I know it!" I reply.
Tilly suddenly sits up. "How about we just cover it and go have fun. I haven't seen you in ages!!" She moans."You saw me yesterday Tilly!"
"Yea, yea. That was yesterday, but you slept like sleeping beauty. Even my amazing ringtone couldn't wake you."
"I have already informed your Mother about our plans. Then she gave me this weird look, as if she didn't believe me. But she still agreed." Tilly informed me as she mimed the look making me crack up.
"My Mum doesn't look like that!" I giggle.
"Well she did!" Tilly said as she grabs my bag and heads for the door.
I follow behind, saying my farewell to Mum before heading out the door. I'm about a metre from the car until I realise my phone was still laying on my bed side table.I hear Tilly tutting me in disapproval. How did that girl know me that well? I race up the stairs and grab my phone. I reach for the door handle of the front door but Mum steps in my way.
"You know I love you, right?" Mum says.
"Yes Mum, I love you too." I say convincingly, hiding my annoyance.
"So you wouldn't lie to me would you?"
"No, your my Mother. That wouldn't be a healthy relationship for either of us." I say astounded by her question
.
"You are going to Tilly's?" Mum says tilting her eyebrow."Yes. No doubt about that." I say, trying to brush off her weirdness.
"Okay honey, I believe you. Just remember, use protection." She whispers as if afraid of her words.
"Ewwwwww!! Mum!! Weren't you listening? I'm going to Tilly's, not sneaking off like you did with Dad." That shuts Mum up completely. I receive a curt nod and an apology kiss before she opens the door guiding me out.
"I trust you." She hushes. "Have a great time you two!!" She coos loudly as I hop into the car at the front of the house.
"What was that about?" Tilly glances over at me.
"Tell you later. Just drive." The events of the day so far worried me. What Mum said was frightening that she didn't trust me.
It's not like I changed, I just got a boyfriend.
No big deal.
Isn't it?
