The cold night air wrapped around me as I flew through the black dismal night. I was running at top vampire speed, running faster than a cheetah on the dry African planes or a speeding race car on a track. The world was flying past me in a blur, only my sharp clear senses enabled me to move so quick and not run into anything. My heart bet rapidly with the adrenaline and my mind raced in exasperation. It was so exhilarating, rushing through the night, the wind blowing back my hair and in my face, my feet beating down on the hard Earth.
Effortlessly I jumped up a tree, perching on a branch and camouflaged by the fresh green leaves. I’d ran a long distance from the cave where I was now living and I had now ended up in the park near my human home town, Netherton. I had been running a while to get here however I hadn’t even broke a sweat.
I laughed in happiness and smiled. Being a vampire with super abilities like speed and strength was amazing. However it came with a price. I’d been turned into a blood sucking monster now. The walking dead. I still hadn’t come to terms with what I was yet. It had been two weeks since my “Death” and my turning and I was already turning into quite the fledgling. Amelie was teaching me how to be a vampire and especially how to drink from a vulnerable human, find the will to stop drinking and not drain them and then heal them so they would survive. My body still cringed though when the warm red liquid poured through my lips but then the delicious metallic taste would send me into a frenzy. A vampire drinking blood was like an alcoholic drinking wine. It was irresistible and I had to drink it at least once a night. And that was what I was about to do now. I was hunting. I was going to find a human and drink from them.
I stayed in the tree for a while, waiting for my right moment to suddenly pounce on my unexpected prey. It was early hours of the morning, which meant the park was mostly empty, apart from some teenage gangs and drunks slouching on cold metal benches gulping down a bottle of alcohol with no care about the consequences. Relaxation washed over me as I just breathed in the scent of the fresh park, the smell of lush leaves and the freshly cut grass wafted through my nose and overwhelmed my heightened sense of smell. The rough bark underneath my fingertips was cold and hard, my nails clawing into the bark, keeping myself in the tree. A bright crescent moon hung in the black sky and a few twinkling stars shone like diamonds around it.
Suddenly my body grew tense and stiffened. My hold on the tree grew tighter like a vice grip, my nails leaving claw marks in the bark. The smell hit me like I’d run into a brick wall. It was intoxicating. So overwhelming. So delicious that I couldn’t hold myself back. I wanted it. Craved it. Needed it.
Somebody very close to me was bleeding and the beautiful metallic smell filled my nose, sending my head spinning, and I could see the red hypnotic liquid in my mind. A red haze suddenly came down on my vision and my vampire took over instantly. I had to find who was bleeding. And I had to have his or her blood.
A sound of a fight filled my ears and I listened intently to it. It sounded like a gang of immature teenage boys turning against each other. I rolled my eyes. Typical. When boys were around, especially in gangs, you could get no peace because of their immaturity and stupidity. Sighing in annoyance I directed my focus back to the fight and tried to locate where it was. By my calculations and guesswork I sensed that the fight was approximately only a few feet away. And I needed to get there. Fast.
