~ Chapter 1 ~

Sweat slowly trickled down the side of my face, my eyes were locked on the target ahead of me. There was no time to screw up.

Carefully, my grip was tight around the handle. My eyes glanced from the object to the machine. Slowly, I pulled the saw down. A piercing scream echoed through out the room as my eyes widened in horror.

"No!" I cried out, "They're uneven!" Sadly, I stared pitifully at my mistake. The board was an inch too far to the right.

'I'm fucked for sure..!' I grimaced.

April glanced at me, skillfully sanding her wood, she pressed a smile. "Ah, Bekka, calm down. It's an easy fix."

I puffed out my cheeks and crossed my arms, "Really, though, is it?"

April rolled her eyes and grabbed the wooden boards from my hands. "Yes, it is."

She walked over to the chop saw and set the uneven boards down. With a pencil, she made a little line. She pulled the saw down and chopped a piece of wood off. Turning towards me, she held out the piece. "Here."

Scowling, I snatched it away and stared intently at the two boards. "They...they're completely even." I muttered in amazement.

April smirked, "Obviously, I always ace wood shop."

I sighed, I, Bekka Smith, was not a perfect student. On the flip side, I don't fail every class. I just don't always pass with flying colors, either.

Taking a class like wood shop is dangerous, I always have to double check to make sure I don't chop off my long hair everyday. Long, dark brown hair, tan skin and green eyes. That's my bio for you. I won't bore with a long ass description of myself just for you to forget. But there is one little detail that shouldn't be forgotten. At the age fifteen I'm a ninja or "kunoichi" in training. Not really a typical hobby a person would pick up. Yet, it feels kinda amazing to do something different.

April, my ginger haired, blue eyed and freckled friend, is also a kunoichi. Technically, she started training before I did. We have the same Sensei...which is a talking rat. Not a itty bitty mouse, I mean a six foot tall, humanoid rat. With his originally students, teenage talking turtles that live in the sewers. Not a life most teenage girls live, but oh well.

April glanced at me, "Hey, wanna do something after school?"

I perked up, "Like what?"

April sat on a stool and swung her feet back and forth, "Apparently there's this diner that reopened after going out of business. Their ratings have been really good so I thought we would try it out."

I shrugged, "Sure, I don't think we'll start training early anyway." I glanced over my shoulder. "She's still in the corner."

April followed my gaze and lowered her voice, "She smashed her T-Phone last week. It kept on going off."

I nodded, "Leo's been trying to get ahold of her and apologize."

"Y'think she'll stay mad forever?"

I shook my head, "Nah, I'm surprised she's still mad."

"Yeah, but her mom died, right in front of her eyes too. You think someone can just get over something like that?"

My shoulders sagged, "I guess ignoring her hasn't helped at all either."

April sighed, "She wanted space, I think this is good."

I shook my head, "Not good enough for me." I picked up my boards and started walking towards a table in the back.

Nickolette Oruko, or Nick. She was someone you didn't want to cross paths with, and someone I used to be really close to. She has dark brown hair, chopped unevenly past her shoulders. Her brown eyes were full of hatred and disgust, tan skin and wore green clothing.
