~ Chapter 2 ~
"Order..!" A deep voice rang out.
I sighed and skippered to the back, "I got it, I got it." I muttered as I grabbed a tray and set the plates of food on.
"C'mon, Nick, it's rush hour! Get your head in focus!" The cook told me. "We don't hire laggers."
I picked up the tray, "And I don't need a snappy ass boss telling me what to do."
He smirked, "Shut up and serve the damn food."
"Only if you cook it all the way through." I commented and started walking away.
I heard him laughed in the back. Smiling, I walked over to a table in the far left. Glancing down at their receipt, I read, "Okay, double bacon cheeseburger and curly fries, two small shakes and a garden salad. That correct?"
The people nodded as I handed them each their plates of food.
I tilted my head to the side and smiled, "Enjoy." With that, I walked away.
Sighing, I glanced around. Three tables needed to be clean and four had to have orders taken. I hate the six o'clock rush.
I quickly walked to the tables and grabbed numerous dirty plates and watered down pop glasses before setting them on the tray. At a fast pace, I hurried to the back and set the dishes in the sink.
A kind, older woman, who was our dish washer, smiled and got to work. I bent down and grabbed a rag and a spray bottle. I sprinted back to the dirty tables to clean them. Honesty, I felt like I was the only one working when it came to doing something.
In a job where you only had to briefly talk to people, I had too much time to think. My mood wasn't the best at the moment, I would be happy, then everything would wash over me again.
My grip tightened around the spray bottle. They'll pay for her death, and I will avenge her. My eyes hardened on the table. I was wasting my time at a low paying job, for what? This wasn't helping me cope with anything.
The door chimed, letting me know more customers were coming. I let out an exasperated sigh, great. Turning around, I saw the people I wanted to see the least; Bekka and April.
"Fuck..." I muttered. I should've known they'd show up here sooner or later.
Bekka caught me looking at her, she nudged April. Her eyes lit up and started to wave at me.
"Hey, Nick, over here..!"
I turned around and started walking towards the back. 'Shit, shit, shit, shit, shit,' was all that ran through my head.
"Hey, uh, we need a waitress for a new table," I said.
My boss, the one I snapped at earlier, raised his eyebrow. "Why? Can't you do it?"
I opened my mouth to speak, but someone else did it for me.
"Aw, c'mon pops. Cut Nick some slack, she's the only one that's been working all day."
I turned and saw the devil behind me. He smirked.
He sighed, "Alright, alright. But just because you finally found someone who became your friend, doesn't mean I'll go easy on them."
Rick's smirked widened, "Gee, thanks. I'm glad you're happy that I found a friend."
His dad rolled his eyes, "Hey, lazy asses! I need waitress for a table!"
A girl ran from the back room, "Sorry boss! I didn't know that I was on my break for that long..!" She told him and ran into the dining space.
I relaxed as Rick's dad, George, walked away to resume cooking.
