~ Chapter 13 ~
Three hours before...
"I still can't believe what's going on," Leo muttered under his breath. His eyes held a deadly look as he thought.
"Well," I chimed in. "Maybe it's nothing and we're overreacting about this. Truthfully, it wouldn't be the first time."
Donnie gave me an uneasy glance and pondered my words before giving his opinion. "That might be true, but the fact that we found an unknown poison on the blade makes me think different." He looked towards his lab. "I did a little more digging and found it is a very rare chemical substance that's hard to create. Hardly anyone knows how to correctly mix it together."
"Which would help point us in the direction of the Kraang," April explained. "They're known for kidnapping scientists," she said with a glare. "If they found someone who could..."
"Yeah, but it was on a blade, not inside a gun. Unless the Kraang know how to operate things other than machinery, they're out of the picture." Leo nipped.
Mikey watched us argue back and forth. Finally, he spoke. "What if the Kraang gave it to Shredder? I mean, they gave him mutagen."
I nodded, "That's also true."
Raph let out an exasperated sigh, "It was Nick they attacked and it was by a street gang." He pointed up, "The bonehead herself told me."
Leo's deadly look shattered as he looked at Raph, "She told you?"
April looked baffled, "How? She won't even look at me anymore."
Raph gave me an uneasy glance before talking. "Well, she didn't know it was me. If she did, it would be a different story. The point is how could a street gang get their hands on, much less afford a dangerous, rare chemical?"
"Stealing," Leo and April said in usion.
"It is a street gang," I pointed out. "They're kinda known for that."
"But that ain't all," Raph grumbled. "Apparently a chick named Jessie attacked her."
I choked and look at April, "Jessie?"
Raph nodded, "Nick called her some pretty profound names."
"Must've been really bad if that's coming from you," Mikey joked.
"I don't see how it could be the Jessie we know," April said, gesturing at me. "Jessie is a orphan like Nick, very rude but not a fighter."
"Not to mention someone who would have Nick on the ropes enough to use her powers," I pointed out.
Raph shrugged, "Well that's just what she told me."
Donnie tapped his chin before speaking out loud, "Someone is probably targeting her."
I let out a soft laugh, "She's been known for being targeted, by numerous people and organizations."
"Yeah...but this is clearly different." Donnie stated. "They're able to get dangerous chemicals, track, and engage in deadly force. Sure, the Foot is known for most of those too, but this time they took Nick by surprise."
"Anyone can be taken by surprise, enemy or friend." Leo pointed out, "Just got to have the right timing."
"So someone's after Nick," I blandly said. "I hardly doubt there is anything we can do about it. As cold as it seems, she would probably respect us more for leaving her alone than forcing ourselves onto her life."
April just sighed in response, "I dunno," she said quietly. "I'd rather know she's okay than her be hurt and us do nothing about it."
Mikey had a large grin on his face, the wheels in his head turning. "Then why don't we go on patrol around six thirty? I mean, if we do run into her, it'll be completely coincidental."
