When the shore hit my toes, I was no longer my normal human self... but half girl half fish, a mermaid as most people would say. When I was young I was never allowed to go out to the beautiful blue salted oceans... So in the beginning, I had no idea I'd be something that belongs in a freak show.

-------

"Sooo I bought a new swim suit" I smirked while swinging the bag in front of my mother's face.

She looks up from her laptop and slid her glasses down to the tip of her nose. Well isn't that nice. Now you can go swimming in the pool with a swim suit that isn't sagging in the back or allowing everyone to-" My mom Sidney replied but I interrupted immediately.

"I know I know but mum.. Just ugh... Listen... The pool is stupid and freaking 4 feet deep... I want to actually live a little and go swimming in the ocean before I die!" I whined.

She closed her laptop and put her reading glasses in its case. " River.. I have told you thousands of times... As long as you're living under MY roof... You will NEVER go diving or swimming or tubing or any if that, in the ocean, it is WAY too dangerous for a little girl like you!!"

I was shocked... And extremely annoyed while my anger rised. "Mum... I'm not sure if you've noticed but I'm 15 years old.. I'm not a child anymore, you can't always tell me what I can and can't do." With that, I jogged up to my bed room and slammed the door.

"As long as your living under my roof, yes I can!!!" She yelled to me from down the stairs.

I sat in my bedroom, slouched over on my bed as I began to think... Just as I thought of a plan, I quickly went on Facebook to surf my news feed for any information about the party. All of a sudden my phone began to vibrate and played the cute little tune that would go off when someone had texted me. I then picked up my phone, typed in my passcode and looked at the screen to see that Alice had texted me.

"Can't wait for the party!" She typed.

I then replied with "cool" and a sad face.. Making it obvious that I didn't convince my mom into letting me go swimming.

"You are going... Right?" I could tell she knew my mum said no.. Thats what she'd always say.. But I guess she tried to have a little hope.

I sat there staring at my phone, deciding what to say next and with a sigh, I replied with "of course not.. My mom would never let me..."

I waited for about 3 minutes for her to rspond and I could tell she was upset when I got the text, "oh my gosh, seriously? You have got to be kidding me... You won't freaking drown!"

I quickly agreed with her, 100%. My mum has been convinced, ever since I was little, that it would drown or be a shark's tasty snack. "I know! Honestly, its a stupid reason especially since I have been swimming in my pool since I was little.. Water is like my life! And I haven't frowned or even been close to it!" Is what I said next.

She and I were very annoyed. She then texted back, "oh my gosh this is so stupid! what's with her and salt water??"

"Pfft I dunno.. maybe she thinks I'll lose my swim suit top in the water... in front of a bunch of guys XD XD" I chuckled as I said that and waited for her reply.

She was definitely laughing at this point then said "HA! Totally XD Or maybe she thinks you'll turn into a fish" she then sent a winky face and I snickered.

"Yes because that's totally possible."

"You never know! Hmm well sorry you can't go. Hopefully next time. Anyways! Gotta get ready! Bye bye!" She finally texted.
