The time came, exactly when the guards switched duties. Mary was the longest serving maid in the entire Villa, so she knew about every detail even to the minutest. It was 3:15 AM when Mary came into Amina's room to help her with her bag and lead her through the escape route.
It was easy to get past the guards half of them asleep and the others changing shifts. Mary led Amina who she had dressed in her spare maid's uniform out of the servant's gate. Once out they walked to the roadside and got on a taxi that belonged to one of Mary's old friends. The taxi dropped them off at the main station where they would meet D' Mama.Mary knew D' Mama from the days she had worked in one of her establishments and it was D' Mama who had helped Mary get a job at the Villa through a long time customer - one of the powers that be.
D' Mama as popularly called by people around her was to leave her Nyanya residence for the North-East to hunt for new girls or her preys as she like to call them. She made sure to take advantage of the Boko Haram attack along that axis. She knew that of the many that had been displaced, the majority where teenagers who would stop at nothing to make a living and so she would promise them heaven on earth. Mary and the girl arrived right on time."Mary!" said D'Mama in a cheerful voice. She always made sure not to develop relationships with her girls but Mary was one who had grown on her just like a daughter.
"D' Mama it's so good to see you!" said Mary as she hugged her very good friend.
"This is Amina"
D' Mama appraised Amina as they shook hands. She was a pretty thing and looked respectful too. D' Mama was delighted to have Amina because of her fluency in Hausa language as earlier informed by Mary, which would serve as a good tool at hand to help convince prospective teenage girls of about her age to work for her.
"It's nice to meet you ma'am" Amina said to the woman in front of her.
She was dressed in elaborate African lace suit and strappy sandals. The woman although short and of average build had a certain air of authority about her.
"You can call me Madam" said the woman to which Amina nodded.
"I must get back before they miss me" said Mary.
She gave Amina a hug, said her goodbyes and left Amina in the hands of D' Mama.
Mary returned hurriedly to the Villa before anyone noticed Amina's disappearance. Before Mary's return, and whenever there was anyone in the corridor loyal Serwa would go into Amina's room wearing a big grin as if expecting to find her friend inside; she'd giggle on her way out pretending to be having their usual morning teases. Coming out this time, Mary greeted her with a "Yes! It's done" kind of expression on her face. Serwa was happy for Amina and her mind more made up to hold on to the mission as she awaited Amina's triumphant return. It may be long or it may be sooner than she thought. Who cared as long as redemption rode back with Amina someday.
On the other hand Amina found herself feeling nervous as Madam led her onto the bus. Madam seemed nice enough but Amina was wary of her all the same. Of course Mary would not have brought Amina to Madam if she did not trust her but Amina couldn't help feeling like she had just be delivered into the hands of a she devil. That evening D' Mama and Amina arrived in a town near Gwoza from where they hoped to begin their mission. Madam had made few contacts on their way for lodge accommodation where they readily settled into.
Meanwhile, the dreaded terrorist sect - Boko Haram that had become a thorn in every flesh living miles along the Nigeria-Cameroun border region were heading back to Sambisa their ungodly den after throwing the entire nation into a great wail. Several explosions had rocked the same Nyanya motor park barely an hour after Amina's bus left leaving a large number of commuters and traders dead.
