The girls arrived at the clinic the following morning only to find that typhoid had broken out in the village. The clinic was at its full capacity, some patients even taking the floors due to lack of bed spaces. The clinic didn't have enough nurses and enough medicine and so Sister Sarah needed all the help she could get. Amina and Salma now have to work at the clinic all through the week.
At around noon on Thursday Andrew went to the ward and pulled Amina aside for a word.
"It's time to go" said Andrew to Amina's surprise
"My shift is not over yet" she replied because they usually left at around 5pm.
"Yes, but I can't risk you or Salma getting infected. We need to go" said Andrew trying to usher Amina towards the exit
"No!" said Amina sternly moving away from him "I'm not leaving. Can't you see these people need my help?"
"Damn it!! There's nothing more you can do here, let's go" said Andrew to which Amina replied by glaring at him and turning back to her patient.
"Cadet Fulani, we are leaving now and that's an order" said Andrew
If looks could kill, Andrew would have dropped dead right there from the look that Amina gave him as she turned back. She knew better than to disobey an order from an instructor. Amina pushed Andrew out of her way as she marched outside to their waiting vehicle where she found an equally furious Salma already seated.
As they drove back into the camp Amina could see that training was in full force.None of the girls had left after her speech and they all seemed to train with a renewed gusto. She was glad that she had inspired them to continue the fight but at the moment she was too upset to revel in her victory. All she could think about was all the sick people at the clinic that needed medical assistance. She knew she shouldn't have made friends with Andrew all along and now she had all the more reason to dislike him.
When the vehicle parked, Amina quickly got out and closed the door with a loud bang."Amina wait" said Andrew gripping hold of her arm
Amina immediately yanked her arm out of his grip and walked away from him.
"The only way we can truly help those people is to make a borehole for them" said Salma walking next to Amina
"We don't have the equipment or the money for that" said Amina
"I know. Maybe we can convince Commander Bwalya to send some of the cadets to join us at the clinic" proposed Salma
Commander Bwalya had authority over Andrew and if they could convince her to let them and a few more cadets to go to clinic there was nothing he could do to stop them. The only problem was that the Commander valued Andrew's opinion too much and if he finds out about Salma and Amina's plan before she agreed he would for sure convince her to not allow them.
"We have to make sure that Andrew doesn't find out before she gives us permission" said Amina
"Then we should speak to her tomorrow because right now Andrew will be watching your every move" said Salma
Come the next morning, Amina and Salma's plan was in full motion. Salma would speak to the Commander at lunch when she was free while Amina distracted Andrew so that he would not find out about Salma's meeting.
Amina quickly entered the building that contained the trainers' rooms. Unlike the cadets each trainer had their own room. She needed to find Andrew before he heads out to the mess hall to have his lunch. Salma was already there waiting for Commander Bwalya. Amina stopped at Andrew's door and knocked."Who is it?" she heard him ask
"Amina" she answered
"Come in" Andrew said
