The morning came with a snap.
“Happy Birthday!” declared Salma as she walked into the chalet carrying a tray of food for Amina who was now just waking up.
“Wake up, birthday girl”
Amina smiled as she sat up “Thank you.”
How time flew, she was already turned eighteen.
“I had the chef make you a special breakfast” said Salma as she placed her tray on Amina’s lap.
The food smelt and looked absolutely delicious
“You are an angel” said Amina.
It was definitely an improvement compared to how she had spent her last birthday.
“I know” replied Salma “and this is just the beginning to what will be the best day of your life”
“I hope you haven’t gone through too much trouble” said Amina digging into her breakfast
“I’ve gone through every trouble my friend, we are here in this beautiful place and we must take advantage of it” Salma was so excited that anyone who didn’t know better would have thought it was her birthday.
“I want to get a tattoo” said Amina
“A tattoo of what?” asked Salma
“A tattoo of a butterfly to remind me of all the struggles I’m going through to gain my freedom just like a butterfly must be an ugly caterpillar before it becomes a beauty. To remind me that Chanda’s death was not in vain. And when all this is over it will be a symbol of victory” explained Amina
“I think we can arrange that” said Salma
After breakfast Salma arranged for her, Amina and Andrew to go on a game drive in the Mosi-Oa-Tunya National Park. It was another amazing experience seeing all manner of animals. They saw Monkeys, Warthogs, Zebras, Giraffes, Antelopes and some more animals that Amina couldn’t remember the names too. They set up a braai stand and had lunch at an open area by the Zambezi riverside in the park.

After lunch their tour guide took them further into a highly protected area of the park that served as the home of rhinos. Amina almost couldn’t believe that amidst all the war and turmoil that was going in Africa beautiful and peaceful places still existed. Unfortunately they didn’t see any Lions because they mostly only came out in the night. Amina didn’t mind that at all considering that Lions could in fact eat humans. From the park they went into town centre where Amina got her tattoo of a butterfly on the inside of her wrist.
“Happy Birthday to you!” sang Salma and Andrew as they presented Amina with a beautiful chocolate birthday cake. They had a delicious birthday dinner that the head chef had specially prepared. “Happy Birthday, dear Amina!”
“Thank you so much” said Amina placing her hand on her chest as it filled with warmth.
“Make a wish before you blow out the candles” said Salma
Amina shook her head at Salma with a smile and wished. I don’t know if wishes work but I wish that by this time in the next few years the Bride choosing will be abolished.
They all cheered when she blew out the candles and Amina in that moment was immensely thankful for her friends. Salma quickly picked the candles off the cake, cut it and served it. The cake was, as expected, very delicious and a perfect end to the day Amina thought.
“Thank you so much, this has been an amazing day” said Amina before taking her last fork full of the cake.
“It’s not over yet” said Salma with a naughty sparkle in her eyes “Andrew has a special surprise for you”
