Summary: Ash doesn't talk. He hasn't since his dad died. But then someone comes along and changes that.
I stare at the ceiling. The music playing in my earbuds is so loud that I can barely hear the sound of my mom crashing into things downstairs while giggling like mad. I sigh and roll over onto my side, staring at the picture on my bedside table. It was my dad and a younger version of myself, staring back at me from the picture. I shake my head and grab the picture frame, looking at it carefully. I set it back down and stuff my face into my pillow. My door bursts open suddenly, and I roll over to look at the doorway, pulling out one earbud. My mom stumbles into my room, her eyes glazed over and red.
"I'm going to bed," she slurs.
I nod and roll back over, my back facing her. I hear my door slam and I hear hers open. There's a crashing sound then a high pitched laugh followed by a 'whoops'. I roll my eyes and place my earbud back in. I put on All Time Low and close my eyes, falling asleep to Alex's voice.
I wake up to the sound of my alarm blaring. I roll over and hit the snooze button on my alarm. I sleep for another five minutes, then get up. I walk over to my closet, pulling on black skinny jeans, an All Time Low shirt, and my gray Vans. I walk into the bathroom, straighten my hair, and style it into my normal style. I exit the bathroom after I brush my teeth. I walk into the kitchen and grab a bowl, milk, and some cereal. I sit down at the table and eat my cereal quickly, then grab my backpack and slip my phone into my pocket. I run out of the door, locking it behind me and walking to the bus stop. While I'm waiting, I see a boy I've never seen before walking towards the bus stop. He's wearing a white shirt, black jeans (that look really tight), and white Converse. And he's walking towards me.
I have no time to turn and walk away. He walks right up to me. "Hey, I'm Connor." He says.
I stare at him. He stares back. "What's your name?" He asks.
I stare at him. He's starting to look uncomfortable. He opens his mouth to speak again, but the bus pulls up and I quickly hop on it, leaving Connor standing there. I walk to the back of the bus and plop down in an empty seat. I reach into my bag and grab my earbuds, slipping them into my ears, Black Veil Brides blasting into them. I turn towards the window and rest my head against it, closing my eyes. About two seconds later, the other half of the seat dips down and someone sits next to me. I sigh and turn to see who it is. Connor. Yeah, okay.
I turn back to the window. Why did he have to sit here? There are so many other seats. My thoughts are interrupted by someone tapping me on the shoulder. I sigh once again and take out an earbud, turning to look at Connor. I raise an eyebrow.
"Hey." He says.
I turn back around.
"What's your name?" he asks for the second time.
I just put in my earbud.
"Hello?"
I turn the music up to a volume that even he would be able to hear. He doesn't say anything after that. Even if he did, I can't hear him.
We arrive at school, and I quickly squeeze past Connor, probably stepping on his foot in the process. I run into school and to my locker. I spin the combination and open my locker. I stuff my backpack into it and grab my English book, notebook, and pencil. I shut my locker door and walk towards English. I'm early, so only the teacher, Mrs. Sterling, is there. I sit in my usual seat in the back of the classroom. When the teacher's not looking, I put in my earbuds and turn on my music at a low volume. Soon people file into the classroom, laughing, talking, and messing around. Soon nearly every desk is full.
