Desperate, raspy cries for help echo my ears.
"Katniss!" I shout.
I know for a fact it's her. What are they doing to you? Why are you here?
I see a bird hover over me and swoop down to my eye level. It's about to come right at me and attack when I take my sword and its neck is detached from its body.
The sounds immediately stop and my eyes pop out of my head.
"WHAT THE HECK!" I grab my hair and stare at the dead bird.
My name is called from behind me, and I turn my head and see Talisa.
"It's a jabberjay. It's not Katniss!"
"Jabberjays copy! Don't they? Where did they get her voice?" I respond out of breath.
Soon more screams fill the shoes of the dead bird. A masculine voice shouts my name.
Peeta."No!"
My eyes shift to more birds, repeating more sounds to me. They imitate voices of my loved ones.
I remember screaming so loud my own ears hurt. I'm running, and my face smashes into something hard. Right when I put my hands on my nose it's bleeding. I let myself fall to the ground while the shrieks overpower me. I can't help them. I've failed. A few feet away I see my allies banging on a wall. There's no wall there! A force field? I lay on my back, making an imprint into the dirt. Staring at the threes above me, I have nightmares about all the people I care about dying before my eyes.
Kolton
We're all hitting on the glass force field, trying to reach her unconscious body. We hear muffled sounds coming from the other side. Birds shrieking, surrounding her. I take my sword and try to shatter the wall, but I just hit myself in the face as my arm flies back."As hilarious as that looked, how do we get to her?" Talisa paces in circles.
For what seems like an hour, the wall finally vanishes. I run to her, shaking her body.
She instantly wakes, gasping.
"My family! What happened to my family?"
"Your family is okay. They're not going to hurt them." Says Talisa.
"What about my little sister? Katniss and Peeta?"
"They're fine, we promise."
"We should get out of here." Says Roman.
Talisa walks beside me, steadying me.
"They're taking away the little sanity I have left." I tell her.
"You're okay. You'll be fine, I promise."
Suddenly the voices reappear. Before I can scream, I am quick to realize it's just Katniss talking into my ear piece. Where have you been!
"Raina. Your family is okay, nothing happened to us."
I nod. She continues, "We are going to get all of you out of the arena. Listen to me. You need to track down the careers. They're sending a windstorm. If you don't find them, you'll be swallowed by it. They're near the second cornucopia further ahead North. There's a closed-in cave next to the treehouse the careers have built. If you can sneak into it without being seen, you can plan an attack. Go now, I'm betting on you."
My grin grows wide. Wider than any grin possible.
With the glances they're giving me, their earpieces have been told the same thing.
We may all be able to get out of here and go home- wait. We can't go home if we all make it out. Where would we go? Hide from President Snow for the rest of our lives?
To put on a show for the people at home, I say,"Hey, maybe we can find the careers. Let's begin uphill."
Not a single word is said, and we start our hike to immediate death.
Careers, watch out for the Rebels.
