Quiet Melodies

Ashely smiled. Home alone. No one to bother her. It's not that she didn't like living with James or being next door to the crazy trio. Its just, she's quiet. She's shy. She's self-conscious about herself and her voice. The siren looked to the clock. She had a few hours until they came back. Now was her chance to be herself.
Ashely went into her room, where a large pool had been installed in the centre, and changed into her swimsuit before sliding into the cool water. She swam around before settling in the middle of the pool and closing her eyes.
This wasn't an unusual occurrence. It was normal to find Ashely relaxing in the cold water. But singing, that was another story. She doesn't like singing in front of others. I know, sirens typically sing to lure sailors to their deaths. But Ashley is different. Much like her friends, they don't like the old, traditional way of doing things. Ashley didn't learn the old songs. And she didn't sing often. Unless she was alone. She smiled as the melodies flowed into her head as she searched for the right song.

You got the words to change a nation

but you're biting your tongue.

You've spent a lifetime stuck in silence

afraid you'll say something wrong.

If no one ever hears you how we gonna learn your song?

The melody of the song spread all throughout the apartment, enchanting and beautiful as she sung, letting herself drift away.

It turns out, the adventures of James and the crazy trio were cut short as the lock clicked and the door opened.

"What's that?" Max asked.
"I don't know," James said with a small frown on his face.

"Did you leave the radio on?" Said Willow/

The vampire shook his head. "No. I'll go check it out."

James wandered the hall, following the sound of the enchanting music. He reached Ashley's room as a small smile formed on his lips. He quietly pushed open the door and leant on the door frame, waiting for the song to finish,

"I wanna sing, I wanna shout

I wanna scream 'til the words dry out

So put it in all of the papers,

I'm not afraid

They can read all about it

Read all about it."

James walked into her room and sat down by the pool. "You have a wonderful voice."

Ashely's eyes snapped open as her cheeks took on a bright shade of red. "I-I didn't think you would be home for a while..."

"Our trip got cut short."

Ashley smiled.

"What's taking him so long?" Willow complained

"You do realise that he lives with a siren, right?" Fawn said, not looking up from the screen of her phone.

"Well. I guess we better leave them then." Max said as they walked out.

I think this is the longest chapter so far in this book. Anyway, the song is Read All About It by Part III
