Anthem's POV~
Mr Jared follows Luke and I up the staircase, an ice pack in his hands for the mark on my face. I heard a gasp as Luke swung my bedroom door open before I felt Michael's arms around me, holding me close to his chest. Mr Jared left the ice pack on the computer desk before excusing himself to help cook prepare dinner. I was lead to the bed and sat down, Luke bringing the ice pack over while Michael inspects the red mark on my face.
"What happened?! I heard yelling and then complete silence!"
I made eye contact with Luke before he handed me the ice pack and excused himself, leaving myself and Michael.
Michael ran a gently thumb across the red mark and cringed when I slightly hissed from the contact.
"She hit me..." I didn't have to say much for multiple emotions to run across his face, starting with pain and ending with anger. He gently held the ice pack to my face, making sure not to hurt me even more.
"Why did she hit you? Who the hell would hit their own child!"
I could sense that he was getting angrier, so I placed my palm against his cheek to make him look into my eyes.
"Why would she hit you, Kitten? Was it because of me?"
I shook my head from side to side, a tear escaping out of the corner of my eye.
"No no no Michael, never because of you! It was my fault, I stood up to her. It was me and my words that made her angry, not you. Never you."
I felt his thumb gently brush away the tears that escaped before he leaned forward, resting his forehead against mine and kissing the tip of my nose.
"I should've been there. It should've been me that she hit."
I could hear the pain in his voice as he spoke.
"I don't deserve someone like you. You deserve someone more sophisticated, someone more like your family. You deserve someone attractive and wealthy, not poor and, well, me."
I grabbed his face and give him a soft, sweet kiss on his lips.
"Michael Gordon Clifford. Stop right there. I don't want anyone else. I don't want someone who 'fits in' with my family. The only person in my whole family that I actually like is Luke. I don't want wealthy, and I find you more attractive than anyone my family could ever find for me. I love you, and only you and I don't give a fuck what my Mother has to say about it."
He smiled before kissing me, holding me close in his arms as we lay down side-by-side on the bed.
"I love you too, but I wish your mum would understand that."
I ran my fingers through his hair and kissed him again before there was a sudden knock on the door.
"Miss Athena and Master Michael? Dinner has been served..."
Mr Jared's voice rang through the door as we both sat up, quickly changing out of our uniforms into more respectable clothing for dinner. Luckily enough, Michael and Luke are the same size so he could quickly borrow some clothes.
The two of us made our way down the staircase, following the sounds of my mother snobby voice talking to Luke, who obviously wanted to be there just as less as Michael and I did.
My mother turned her nose up at both myself and Michael as we sat down across from Luke.
"I never remember inviting him to the dinner table."
Luke gave the two of us a sympathetic look while Dad sat across from Mother, ignoring her comment.
We picked up our forks and began eating, ignoring the hateful glares coming from my mothers direction. The awkward silence pretty much consumed the whole dinner table until my mother slammed her cutlery onto the table.
