Christmas Eve
"Hey, kiddo. Have fun. Come home before 2 am, okay? I should be up until then. Let me know when you come in," Kai rambled.
"Okay, okay," I giggled. I fixed my hair in the mirror next to the front door, and unlocked it with my one free hand. The other, filled with strings connected to bags for the party tonight. I smiled to get as I left the house, catching a glimpse of our 8 foot Christmas tree. High ceilings are beautiful when decorated correctly.
"Don't bust your ass!" She laughed. "Your uncle already made his mark outside!"
I laughed fairly loud as I shut the door. It was already 5:30. The event started at 6:15, so I had plenty of time to get inside and get talking.
Crisp, white snow flurries slowly drifted down onto the already two-inch deep snow. A chilling wind cried out as I walked down my stairs and off of my sidewalk. I crossed the street, went up a few steps, and used the door knocker that was in the center of the giant wreath.
A warm, calming and colorful array of light was revealed when the door opened, breaking the frost bitten feel of the cool toned environment outside. Behind a welcoming Jackie was a very giggly Morgan while he played with his much younger sisters.
"Hello, [y/n]!" She smiled a brilliant smile. "Come on in, get out of that cold, girl. You look so cute!"
I smiled, thanking her for grabbing the door. Immediately, Asa walked up to me with a cheerful smile.
"Hey, beautiful!" He said as he hugged me. "Let me take your scarf and hat for you."
"Asa, dude, I can get it myself!" I laughed. "But thank you, my gentleman."
He chuckled and made a double chin face at me, showing dislike of the word 'gentleman.' He first grabbed my accessories, and then my bags, taking them and placing them beneath the large tree, where people sat around drinking.
Asa then led me to the kitchen, where many of his, presumably, relatives sat and stood, laughing and smiling.
"Hey, guys. This is my friend, [y/n]. I'd like you all to meet her."
"Oh, hi," I smiled awkwardly. I didn't need him to announce my presence! But suddenly, a collective "Hi!" roared from the area.
"Wow, you have a huge family," I stated, surprised.
"Heh," he replied. "Yeah.. Would you like a drink?"
"What've you got?" I asked. He led me to a table with an array of plastic cups and mugs. He grabbed a indigo mug with white, wintery detailing. There was coffee, eggnog, milk, water, and apple cider. But I chose the last.
In the middle of me sipping, Asa spoke.
"I bet my gifts better," he smiled cockily.
"Oh, no way," I shot back at him. "Let's make a game of it."
"You're totally on," he replied.

"Gift time! Gift time!" Loxie giggled as she ran from Morgan's lap.
Everyone gathered in the giant living room and sat around the Christmas tree.
"Alright, due to the number of people that are here tonight, we've organized a system, we're going to go in alphabetical order by first name to do this with minimal chaos," Asa's dad spoke. I didn't really know him well, but he didn't seem to dislike me.
