This is a really special chapter, as I started this book when I was 13!

I woke up to the raging sound of my cellphone ringing to Jon Bellion's "Guillotine." As I squinted at the blinding screen, a name came into view. Asa. I immediately answered the phone.

"Hey, you," I mumbled into the phone.

"Good morning!" He beamed.

"What time is it?" I asked, rolling over to the other side of my bed, curling into the soft duvets.

"It's about ten. Sorry if you wanted to sleep in. But, hey, I called to say that I had a really great time with you last night. And I have an inquiry for you," he hummed.

"Awh, I had a wonderful time with you, too. But what's up?" I asked.

"Before my departure, do you want to hang out for a little big? We can just sit around until.. Until it's time."

"I'd love to. I'm sure Kai will be fine with it. God, I can't believe it's already the day," I drifted off.

"Don't get too sad on me, now," Asa said. "Hurry and get your shortness over here."

"I swear, Asa Maxw—" I started, but was cut off by Asa hanging up with a snicker.

I lazily got semi-dressed and applied a little makeup to hide the bags beneath my eyes and a little extra to complement my features. I brushed my teeth, put on deodorant and perfume, and went to get dressed with my favorite hoodie and a SnapBack. After my black skinny jeans and high top vans were on my body, I texted Kai and locked the door as I left.

Not soon after, I was at the Butterfields's residence. I knocked once, but was interrupted by Asa swinging the door open. His house smelled like a welcoming sugar cookie, and I adored it.

"Hey, you," I smiled gently.

"Hey yourself," he grinned back. "No one will be home for a few hours, you can scream all you want!" He chuckled.

I let out a soft, airy laugh along with him.

I didn't think this was gonna be painful. But like usual, I'm wrong, aren't I?

My best friend led me to his large bedroom as I trailed behind. He had already set up our favorite snacks and sodas. I already knew what he was doing, and it was bittersweet.

We watched movies and fed each other the foods until we couldn't move a muscle.

"Ace, I'm not gonna lie, it hurts pretty fuckin' bad that you're leaving," I hummed into the pillow beside him.

He didn't reply at first. He just glanced at me with sad eyes that pierced my soul. My heart fluttered as his gloomy expressed bloomed into a small smirk.

"Yeah. I know. But it won't be any different! We can video chat, and call, text, and so much more! It'll be like I never even left. And hey, I'll be back before you know it," he chimed optimistically.

"Yeah, I know that, but—"

I was interrupted by a strong, passionate kiss. His vaguely chapped, pink lips entranced me in a world of emotion. It was warm, and lasted for several seconds. I started to pull away for air, but quickly came back to attach once more. Asa quickly turned over on top of me, and let out a soft moan. His tongue slid onto my bottom lip, sliding it into my mouth. His tongue danced with mine in a sweet ballad, and his hands were now on my hips as he was on top of me. My hands were placed as one was on his shoulder and the other on his jaw. He pulled away for a long moment, and his cyanic eyes connected with my [e/c] orbs.

There was a long, sullen silence, until our moment was broken by Asa's phone going off.

It was time.

As I held onto the toddler's hand and held the baby on my side, Asa's mom and dad helped him load up his luggage. For six. Months. My chest hurt as I already longed for Asa. The love of my life would be gone in a less than three hours.

The drive to the airport was silent. Other than a few gurgles from the baby or some snores from the tot, I laid my head on Asa's shoulder as his arm was wrapped around me. I was absolutely in love with him, and yet, I couldn't even say it. I didn't want to hurt him before he left, give him mixed emotions, or make our prized friendship be any different.

Eventually we arrived. Asa and myself walked in, carrying all four carry-ons for his first class seat. He was to be gone in an hour now. Still stuffed from our snack session, we decided to just get coffee until his flight was heard over the intercom.

"Ace—."

"Don't say it."

"What?"

"Don't you dare say that you'll miss me. It'll just make it worse. God, I don't want to leave you. I know it'll hurt. It hurts me already. There's this knot in my stomach, and, well, I don't know how to explain it, okay? I just don't wanna dick this up," he pummeled the calm vibe of the cafe.

"Asa," I started. "We're gonna be okay. What happened to that optimism?"

He sighed. "I dunno."

Eventually, the heartbreaking tone of the announcers voice rang out that it was time for Asa's departure. After all the things were settled with his luggage, I stood there outside of the gate with him. His back was turned towards me.

Asa slowly turned around, his face splotchy with red marks and tears in his eyes, his bottom lip quivering.

"[y/n]?" He choked.

"Asa," I hugged him tightly.

"I know what that knot was now. I was stupid not to have realized it before. But damnit, [y/n], I—," Asa sniffled.

"I'm so deeply in love with you," he said as he kissed me quickly, and ran for the gates.
