Two weeks later

It had been 14 days since I moved in with Kai and her family in London. I had spent the last few days wallowing around in the dark, preparing for the inevitable: school.

"[y/n], honey, it's time for dinner," Kai called from the fancy, expensive kitchen. My room was right beside it, as it was their spare.

"Alright," I replied. I got off my laptop. (I was explaining why I couldn't take the job; I was in another country!)

I got out from underneath the black, silky duvet. I standing up and stretching, I left my room. My eyes took a minute to adjust to the light, but they soon did. I sat down beside my only cousin, Adrian, and sat down. He was in year 11. Adrian picked up the accent from his father.

I looked at my already filled plate and stared. I hadn't had a home cooked meal all of my life. At first, I didn't eat. I just stared.

"[y/n], honey, please eat your food," Kai called.

I nodded, and picked up my fork, taking a centimeter of food and nibbling at it. There was complete and utter silence.

"So how's your druggie mom?" Adrian asked.

"Jonathan Adrian Bulk!" My uncle Tom bellowed through a British accent and gruff tone.

I dropped my fork into the table with a kling! Getting up from the table, I walked quickly, but forcefully to my bedroom. My stomach formed knots and my eyes grew teary and poignant. I sat against my door, locking it. I weeped against my entryway, fists clenched.

A gentle knock came from the other side after a good ten minutes.

"Sweetheart, please open the door," Kai's compassionate voice sang.

I didn't reply, but did almost immediately to try and get her out quicker.

"I know how this must make you feel, baby girl. You don't have to respond, but, please, listen. She hurt you, and it's not okay. But it's all over now. You're with people that will and always have loved you. Your mother loved you, she just couldn't show enough feeling to prove it to you. You are a beautiful, strong, and independent young woman. You'll get through this," she lectured soothingly.

After a few moment of silence, I replied, "T-thank you."

"Any time, baby. Let's go get you fed, alright?"

"Okay."

After eating only half of my food, as it was a lot, I went back into my cold, dark room. I liked it like that, though, not being bright. That was comfortable to me.

Kai and I were talking about school.

"Do I have to wear a uniform?" I asked.

"No way! You think I'd make Adrian go to some school with uniforms? Not in my house. That's no way to express yourself. I'm sure there's people you've heard about there. Oh, and I checked your clothes, they're all in dress code.

"Thank you," I mumbled.

"Get some sleep, I'll wake you up in the morning," she said, while about to leave.

"Hey, Kai?"

"Hm?"

"Do.. Do you mind if I call you change my last name? To, you know, Bulk?"

She giggled, "Not at all."

She smiled, and left my room. I shut off my laptop, set my glasses on my beside table, and fell asleep soon after.

Yay, school. Sarcasm had always been one of my favorite feats.
