"Get the Vaccine!" I screamed at Jesse. He looked at me oddly but went to get a couple syringes of it anyway. He handed them to me and I stuck a needle in all of them and pushed the plungers down. The hands all retracted. I re boarded the windows while I could.
"I don't understand." Macey said.
"Well, If that won't cure them it will kill them, so either way were going to be safe for a while." I said. They all nodded. Kase started to bark like crazy, I grabbed my shotgun and headed out into the lab, Jesse and Kaydon followed close behind. Nothing was there. that is weird, she doesn't just bark. I looked in all of the containing chambers. The pregnant girl had returned to almost a normal state. She must have just been infected a couple hours ago.
"Help." She breathed in a scratchy voice. I looked at her eyes.
"If you promise not to bite." I said after a minute of observation.
"I promise." She held up her hand.
"Jesse, go back and help protect the girls, Kaydon, go into one of the backrooms, there should be three decontamination suites, I need you to get to of them and bring one to me and change into one." They both nodded and went to do what had been asked of them.
"I need you to tell me exactly what is wrong." I told the girl.
"I think, I think I'm having my baby." The girl said. I nodded. Kaydon came back with the suites. I put one on and took the girl out of the chamber. thirty minutes later the baby was born and the child was deemed human. Vital signs were that of a normal newborn and brainwaves were more or less normal. unlike whatever the infected had in their heads. the minute we put the mother back in the cell with the wires attached and everything the heart monitor fluctuated for a minute and stopped at about 102 over 45 the brain wave monitor showed one steady line of nothingness and she tried to attack through the glass. My theory is that because she was human while she was pregnant her baby is human.
I brought the little girl back to the den.
"Who wants it?" I asked. No one raised their hand.
"I'm not keeping it. You want it Laura? Macey's baby could have a friend." She nodded awkwardly. we all laid down to get some rest, in our pairs of course. Me with Kaydon and everyone with each other. Except Gunner was with Kase. Till morning friends.
