I was the first awake around 9 P.M. I figured it was okay to go outside because of the darkness. I wasn't expecting anyone else to be awake for another couple hours. So I continued doing what I had been doing before Kaydon's group found me and Kase. I went three blocks over and started to hot wire cars and move them to the side of the road. Even though it started as a virus, the virus itself was programmed to self destruct anyone with it at 3 o'clock 12/21/12. It worked perfectly, resulting in abandoned cars strewn across the streets.
Around Ten main street was clear (two blocks from where I had started at nine).
"Karma? Hello? Are you Ok? Where Are you?" Macey's voice came from my Walkie-talkie radios.
"Ya, I'm OK, I just went out for a bit. I'll be back soon." I told her and cleared the last car off this street. I was making a clear path from our headquarters to all of the shops and a mall. I took a Pick-up truck that I had found with the keys in the ignition (there were no keys because the Infected's liked shiny things), and drove it back to headquarters. I parked as close to the service/delivery area as I could. I walked down the outside stairs and unlocked the door that led into the hallway. From there I could get into the lab, and the rooms. I heard the song Smack That by Akon and Eminem blasting from the living room (the groundskeeper room which I had cleaned out) and I locked the door, shoved a dresser in front of it, and walked over the the living room. I walked in to everyone up and dancing. I laughed and Kaydon grabbed me and made me start dancing. After the song was over, The Only Exception by Paramore came on and Kaydon pulled me into his chest and started slow dancing with me. I looked at everyone else who had also coupled up. Gunner had his arms wrapped around Macey to his best ability and Laura and Jesse were kissing and I sighed, knowing that I could never have that. At 16 it really isn't something I should be preoccupied with, but being the last humans in the world you just sometimes thought about things like that.
A tear fell down my face and Kaydon could feel it through his shirt, because he quietly whispered in my ear, "Are you Ok?" I nodded and he hugged me tightly to him.
"I think about it to." He whispered.
"About what?"
"About how were the only one's left, about how we can never have choice's on who to love." He told me. I nodded and started sobbing into his chest. He lifted up my chin and looked me in the eyes.
"If we're going to be alone, we might as well be alone together." He said, and leaned in for a kiss. Everyone in the room cheered.
"HA, You owe me 20!" Gunner screamed at Jesse.
"20 What? Why would you ever need to use money again?" Jesse pointed out.
"But, our bet."
"Was just for fun." Jesse finished. I laughed.
"You bet what. Kaydon was gonna kiss some random human girl?" I asked.
"Nah, Just that we was gonna kiss you." Jesse explained.
"Oh."
"So, I'm Going to go make some breakfast, continue dancing." I told them and walked to the kitchen. Kaydon walked in behind me and shut the door behind us.
"I'm sorry." He told me quietly.
"It's Ok." I said as I cracked three eggs into the frying pan on the stove. he stood next to me and took a bigger pan from a cabinet underneath and started to put bacon in it.
"It's not Ok."
"Sure it is. What's one little kiss?" I asked.
"What's One little meaningful kiss? Well, for one, I think there's a pretty good chance that means I like you." He said. I just stayed quiet.
"Sorry." He repeated and finished with the bacon. Then he left for another room. I finished making breakfast and called everyone into the kitchen. I went to the lab to check on the test subjects.
"Subject 4c. Date 6/27/13. Cell number 5. Injection combination 4d367f9up3. Subject appears to be growing worse in health. Subject still has Tachycardia. Seems to be possibly slowing to a normal heart rate. Blood pressure 160/97. Eating eggs I have set in cell. Paleness seems that of an anemic patient." I said into a tape recorder and stopped recording. Kaydon came in and wrapped his arms around me from behind.
"It's not because we are the only one's left." he said.
"I know."
"It's because you're amazing." I smiled.
"But how can you be sure it's not because were the only ones left that you THINK you like me?" I asked.
"I'm not sure."
"Then how can you sit here and tell me that you like me when you aren't even sure why?"
"Because sometimes you have to take a chance. Even if there is a possibility of getting hurt."
