The World Was Supposed To End In 2012; Now Were The Only One's Left *Chapter 5*

"What are we going to do?" Macey asked. I shrugged.

"Who let a sixteen year old girl be the leader?" Jesse asked.

"EHM, excuse me but I did." I said.

"Look, I think we have a bigger problem than who's the leader."Laura pointed out the window. Gunner Sighed and flipped the power switch on and off a couple times. It confused the infected' and they ran out of the exits on all sides to go outside and try to find light. We kept the strobe-like effect going until all of the things were gone. Then we grabbed flashlights, turned off all power to the store, and went downstairs to check for more infected and lock all the doors.

Once we confirmed Nobody but us and the dogs were in with us we went 'Shopping'.

"So what do we need?" Laura asked.

"First, we need to get all the food we can. Then wipe the place of ALL batteries. Even the ones that aren't normally used, like the D's and C's. From there we will all meet up over by cash register 1." Everyone nodded and grabbed a cart. Since this was just a regular Wal-Mart there was only dry food and canned food, which was good for us. I pushed everything that should have still been good into the cart. Everything canned, everything dried, NOTHING in cardboard because the Airborne disease could get through the particles in the cardboard and contaminate the food, killing Kase, Jelly-bean (A small Blue nosed pitbull), and Joey (a Black Lab).

"HEY! Do you get cable?" Gunner yelled across the store.

"WHO IS THERE TO BROADCAST THE CABLE?" I asked.

"Oh." I heard him say to himself. I laughed.

"DVD'S" Macey screamed.

"T.V.?" Gunner asked.

"I have one in the Groundskeeper's quarters, it's huge." I told them, yelling across the room, my voice echoing.

I finished getting the food and went over the check on Kaydon who went off to get batteries. He was finishing up when I went down his aisle. Jelly-bean and Joey were following and Kase went over to play with them.

"Ready?" I asked. Kaydon nodded. We went over to where the DVD's were. Macey, Laura, and Gunner were looking through the movies and picking things and putting them in carts.

"Where's Jesse?" Kaydon asked.

"He went over to the clothes." Laura said.

"CLOTHES?" Macey screamed as she pushed her cart to the clothes aisle. Laura followed with Kaydon. Gunner stayed with me in the electronics area. He picked up the third season of Family Guy and dropped it in his cart. Then he went over to the glass case of Ipods and tried to rack the glass. I went over to the counter and opened one of the drawers, a set of keys were laying in the drawer, one was labeled 'Ipod glass case'. I brought it over to Gunner and he unlocked the case taking all of the Itouch's and putting them in the cart. I ran over to a rack of walkie-talkies and grabbed Four packs (eight walkie talkies). I went and dumped them in his cart because mine was full of food.

"MACEY!" I screamed and she rushed over to where I was.

"What?" She said out of breath.

"How many months along are you?" I asked.

"I don't know, Probably around 7 or 8." She told me, confused.

"Do you have any baby stuff?" I asked.

"No."

"Well then lets go get some." She smiled. With all of them being a nomatic group she couldn't get anything too bulky because they would have to carry it. She took her cart and brought me to the baby area.

"Girl or boy?" I asked.

"I'm not sure." She said.

"Ok, then get neutral colors." She picked out a green and yellow Crib set. A dark mahogany crib. A blue and pink Bassinet. One of those baby holders you attach to your chest and slip the baby in. It was black and red. Then she picked out a whole bunch of clothes in all sizes (ALWAYS buy in bulk). We bought a bunch of those huge boxes of diapers and wet wipes. We actually took up a couple carts. I took a couple toys.

"Everyone ready?" I called out.

"Yea." They all called back.

"Lets go." We met up at the first cash register. We all had at least one cart and those whos weren't full we doubled it with another person's. We had and extra cart, which we tied to My cart to make a train and pulled it like that. We got back to the Hotel and took everything down with the Service elevator. For now we put everything in the storage room (One of the maids rooms not the one we used as a kitchen) and put the carts up outside.

"You don't happen to have running water, do you?" Laura asked? I nodded.

"My uncle was a plumber so I learned how to do stuff to make it work." I told them.

"Who wants to take a shower first?" She asked everyone.

"Why don't we let Macey take the first shower?" Jesse suggested. We all nodded.

"Then Laura, then Karma. And then Gunner, then Jesse, and I'll go last." Kaydon said.

"No, I'll go last. I shower everyday. I live here." I Reminded them. They nodded. I went into the kitchen and started to put all the groceries up. I poured bowels of dog food for the dogs after I disinfected it. Kase was immune to whatever had infected everything, at least the airborne disease, but I wasn't sure about the other two dogs. I got out pasta and a gallon of purified water. I cooked spaghetti and covered it when it was done so it wouldn't get cold. I went into the main bedroom.

"Ok everyone, Lunch is ready." Kaydon finished his shower right as I walked out of the room. They all came and sat at the large table in the lounge/kitchen. I placed a plate in front of each of them. Jelly-Bean, Joey, and Kase sat next to the table and ate.

"Has anyone noticed it getting colder?" Macey asked. I nodded and went to check the thermostat, it was 40 degrees outside. I turned up the heat to 80.

"Ok. As you all know. We are running on generators for electricity. And when there were only two of us, Kase and I, it was ok to just leave everything on. And that is the environment you all came into when I invited you. But from now on when something Isn't in use it needs to be OFF, not on idle, but OFF." Everyone nodded.

"Ok." They agreed. We finished eating and I went to wash the dogs in the bathtub. Kase didn't need to be washed, but the other two did.

"So do you guys want to set up Macey's Crib and stuff?" I asked the boys. They sighed and went over to the storage room to get the boxes.

Around dinner time all was taken care of and whoever was hungry had leftover's for dinner.

Soon everyone went to bed, leaving me and Kaydon awake. it was close to daybreak.

"We need to start rebuilding the human species." He told me jokingly. I smiled at him sleepily.

"I don't think so buddy." I yawned.

"Sleep?" He asked. I nodded and laid down on my mattress with Kase. Kaydon and the other dogs slept on the fourth mattress in the room. Maybe Kaydon was right. Maybe it was on us to rebuild human society.
