I went back to bed and fell asleep. When I woke up, the girls had been trying to wake me for almost an hour and were about to set Totodile on me. I sat up and was still kind of groggy. "What's going on?" I asked. "Nurse Joy and Chansey have been saying you have a message downstairs. We've been trying to wake you up, but you wouldn't budge." Leaf said. "William, are we going to keep this cute little guy with us?" Ellie asked as she was playing with Rowlet. "If you enjoy playing with him so much, we can keep him with us. I was thinking of sending him back to Prof. Oak so that we would have the availability for Pokémon from Johto, but we can hold on to him for a little while longer." I said with a smile when I saw Ellie light up. This did not amuse Leaf at all. "William, the call downstairs." Leaf said trying to remind me. "Right." I said as I got dressed and started heading downstairs.
When I answered the call, it was Prof. Kukui. "Professor? Is everything alright?" I asked. "Yes. Yes, everything is okay William. I was calling cause one of my researchers found something that we thought you should see. Can you make a quick trip here to my lab to see this?" Prof. Kukui said. Leaf, Ellie and I all looked at each other. "Come to Alola? Can't it be shown on the phone?" I asked. "It's a little too big to even get into my lab if you can believe that." Prof. Kukui said laughing. "What is it exactly?" I asked. This question kind of stumped Prof. Kukui. "How do I explain this? It's a stone with a lot of ancient writing on it that no one in Alola can actually read." Prof. Kukui said. "Then how do you know it pertains to what I asked of you?" I asked slightly annoyed. "Because it has a symbol that Prof. Oak sent me from your Signdex on the signature." Prof. Kukui said as one of his researchers brought a piece of paper with a drawing of my symbol for Lugia. Leaf and Ellie looked at me kind of shocked. "What's the easiest way for me to get there?" I asked. "He means us!" Leaf and Ellie said practically in sync.
We headed back toward Vermillion City in Kanto to board a ship that would take us to the island in the Alola Region that Prof. Kukui said that his lab was. When we got on the boat, we met one of the trainers that Prof. Kukui had said would lead us to his lab. "Hi there, my name is Hau." Hau told us. He was at least ten years old with long, curly black hair that he had tied in what Ellie referred to as a man bun. Hau had a very dark complexion that I assumed was from how tropical the Alola Region is because Prof. Kukui had a complexion that was only a few shades lighter than Hau. "You said the Professor gave you a partner Pokémon?" I asked. "Yep." Hau said as he tossed a Poke ball in the air. Out of it came a black and red cat like Pokémon. "This is Litten. He's the fire starter in Alola." Hau said. I was the only one who heard this since, as soon as Litten materialized, both Ellie and Leaf were surrounding it and commenting on how cute the Pokémon was. Cyndaquil was kind of saddened by this, yet Leaf didn't even notice. I picked up Cyndaquil and started comforting it to stop it from crying.
"Leaf, quit messing with Litten and pay attention to your own Pokémon." I said once Cyndaquil finally fell asleep. Leaf looked at me and started to feel bad. "What did he say?" Leaf asked in a saddened voice. "He asked why he wasn't cute enough for you. I had to speak telepathically to him and tell him that you thought he was cuter and that you just got distracted and would show him that you truly felt this way after he woke up. I would suggest you hold him and then pay very close attention to him once he wakes up. Remember, he still acts like a baby." I said handing Cyndaquil to Leaf. "So Hau, do you know anything about this stone that the Professor told us about?" I asked. "He told me where they found it and I do remember seeing that back home, but it was in a language I had never seen before." Hau said. I tried to access my past lives memories to see which one wrote it and what it might've said before we would get there, but like always when I try to go through the memories, it didn't work.
After another day at sea, we finally make it to Alola. We met up with the Professor and he took us to where the stone was located. I looked at it and gently ran my hand across its surface. I looked at the symbol and traced it. "Is anything happening, William?" Prof. Kukui asked. "No. Nothing." I said frustrated. "Were you hoping for something to happen?" Ellie asked innocently. "We were hoping that William would have some kind of reaction to the writing or the stone itself." Prof. Kukui said. "Can you at least read it, William?" "No. I don't understand it. It just looks like a bunch of lines." I said before my controller sight kicked in as if out of instinct. Call out to the ones who came before and ask for your memory. If all else fails, call Lugia to help you remember by unlocking the memory vault. "What in the world? Why did it work when that took control?" I asked myself aloud. I sat down and started to meditate. My mind went into the astral plane. "I am here to call upon my past selves. Please, someone answer me and let me see into the memory vault." I called out into the openness. No response. I was about to leave the astral plane when I suddenly heard a figure coming my way. "Hello William. Glad you could finally come." The man said. He was tall with white hair and some clothes similar to the style that I had seen when studying the Kalos Region.
"Who are you?" I asked. "My name is Legendary Trainer Callum. I was the Legendary Trainer before you." Callum said. "By the way, how is my old friend Surge doing?" "He's good. He still calls me LT." I said. We both cringed at the mention of that nickname. "Yes. Unfortunately, I could not do anything to stop him from calling us that. Now, let's go to the vault and see who it is exactly you are supposed to see." Callum said calmly. "Wait! I want some answers. What is this vault? Why can my controller vision read that tablet? And why am I only meeting you now?" I asked. "I see Lugia is as hesitant as ever to explain the powers to you. The vault is a name for the collection of your past lives that are waiting to help give you guidance and answers whenever you want them. Your 'controller vision' as you call it is the signature ability of all Legendary Trainers that allows for us to understand and manipulate what other people cannot understand a lot of the time. As for why we are only meeting now is that you have just recently begun to master your ability to reach the astral plane and this is the first time you have called out to us." Callum explained. I didn't realize how creepy it was until after the explanation, but Callum used my voice to explain all of that.
We arrived at the vault and I saw countless numbers of Legendary Trainers all gathered in one place. All of them had symbols on their necks that matched some of them and separated them as well. "Just say what region you want to speak with and those that have that region's symbol will come over." Callum said as he was walking off. I didn't understand what he meant, but I went with it. "I need to speak with the Legendary Trainers from the Alola Region." When I said that, everyone else vanished and maybe thousands of people showed up instantly in front of me. "Which one of you wrote on that tablet that I found?" After I asked, all but one had disappeared. "I am Legendary Trainer Mahi. I wrote on that tablet to give new Legendary Trainers the knowledge to come here and ask for help." Mahi was tall, but fat. He had a dark complexion similar to Hau's. "Will I be able to access the memories on my own now instead of them randomly coming to me through dreams?" I asked. "Yes. That was actually due to Callum that time. He said he wanted you to speak with his friend to retrieve the Guardians." Mahi said as a little woodpecker like bird flew on to his shoulder. "The Guardians may not die when we do, but their spirits do travel with us from when we traveled. Each Legendary Trainer will have their Guardian with them when you visit us here."
I woke up back in front of the tablet with Leaf and Ellie asleep on each other. I looked outside and noticed that it was much later in the day than when I had left. Chikorita saw that I was awake and said, "There you are. You've been asleep for a long time." "How long exactly?" I asked. "Ellie said five hours before she fell asleep almost an hour ago. They wanted to stay with you." I petted Chikorita's leaf and let her go to sleep. I had Rowlet watch over them as I went to the Professor's lab. "Professor?" I asked. "William? You're finally back. You were in quite the meditation. It's almost been seven hours straight. What happened?" Prof. Kukui asked. "I read it. I read the message from Legendary Trainer Mahi." I said. Prof. Kukui spit out the coffee he was drinking when I said the name. "Did you say Mahi?" "Yes. Why?" I asked. "Mahi was the name of an ancient warrior here in Alola who calmed Solgaleo and Lunala when they had been poisoned by the Sun and Moon. They went on a rampage and nearly destroyed the region. Mahi used an ancient form of magic to calm them when he battled them." Prof. Kukui said as he pulled out some ancient drawings telling the story. "Professor, how old is the tale of Mahi?" I asked. "Thousands of years old, William. To think, none of us thought about the chances of Mahi being a Legendary Trainer. It makes sense now." "Are these symbols the 'magic' that Mahi used?" I asked. "Maybe. The art that Mahi used to calm them has been lost to time and never explained. I wonder if you can figure it out." Prof. Kukui said. "Next time I'm here, I'll try. We have to get back." I said.
