Six - Drinks and Blood

I had made a deal with Shauna. Every time I think of him, I have to take a shot, which is good for her in two ways: One, it ensures I won't think of him; Two, I will have fun. The last part is going to keep me from thinking of him. I don't enjoy drinking. I've only really drank once, and that was the day I found out he died. But other than that I hated it.

Damn, I thought of him. Shot. I didn't want to think of him, so I was willing to catch myself and take a shot, I didn't need Shauna to make sure. My eyes roll back as the alcohol burns my throat. I take a sharp intake of breath as Kyle walks over to me.

"What are you doing?" He asks me with an accusing tone.

"Trying to have fun," I mumble.

"You promised me you wouldn't drink like you did last time again."

"I won't"

"By the looks of that bottle next to you, it looks like you've already taken ten shots."

"Nahh, maybe three at the most," I slur between hiccups. Liar.

"I feel like an idiot," he says putting a finger to his temple, rubbing it in harsh circles.

"Why?"

"I shouldn't have brought you here, this is just as much my fault as it is Shauna's." He takes a deep breath and comes to my side. I lower my head in shame as he puts his arm around me.

I spot the one person I invited that I never expected to come. Kitty. She notices me and a large grin makes way onto her perfect lips. I would be lying if I said I was never attracted to her in my early middle school years. She was really sweet then, she changed when we got to be Seniors in high school. Something clicked inside of her, she always had the tendency to be a bitch, but she learned to completely embrace it when she turned 18.

She grabs my arm and drags me to the corner of the room. Her smile deepens, "I haven't seen you in a long time, who's that guy you're with?" She smirks and turns her head toward Kyle. It really had been a while, I would have thought she'd recognize him.

"Your worst enemy," I mumble. Kyle and Kitty used to be like brother and sister like Kyle and me, but then she changed her name to Kitty, and really just... changed. The last time I saw her was on my eighteenth birthday and Kyle got into a heated conversation with her about her behavior at the party. They don't like each other at all anymore.

"What?" She asks.

"I said it's your worst enemy."

"Well that's a long list, but I don't recognize him from anywhere, what's his name?" She asks, licking her lips.

I chuckle, "Kyle."

Her face drops and she puts her hand up to her mouth. Her polished nails dig into her upper lip. She takes a deep breath trying to get over the fact that she thought he was attractive. "Well you're dressed..." her eyes skim up and down my body, "fancy."

I nod, "I bought this dress and Shauna told me to wear it." She rolls her eyes at the mention of Shauna. She never really liked her, I think she was jealous that she took away her best friend, but she would never admit that.

She would have liked Reid. I groan and grab my shot glass. I down the harsh alcohol and turn back to Kitty.

"What was that about, last time I checked, you told me I could punch you if you became an alcoholic," Kitty acknowledges.

"I'm not an alcoholic, I hate it, in fact, I'm just trying not to think of someone," I admit casting a glance at my feet.

"Looks like we have some catching up to do."

"Yeah."

Her face brightens and her eyes widen, "I actually need a place to stay, do you think I could crash at your place tonight?" I huff, look at Kyle, then nod. This should be fun.

------------

"You invited her to what?!" Kyle yells.

"She just needs a place to crash for the night."

"No, this is going to turn into something more than one night, Phoenix," he sneers. I cower in the corner and apologize. "Do you even remember the reason I hate her?"

"Yes," I mumble.

"What's that? I didn't hear you," he snaps sarcastically. He then goes into long detail about the argument they had that night.

"Hey guys, do you want-" I open the door to which Kitty said she would be talking to my ex-boyfriend. That's not all they're doing.

I can't help but widen my eyes and stare at my best friend having sex with my ex. Kyle then walks up behind me and looks at the scene in front of him. His brother fucking one of his good friends, his brother who is also his best friend's ex-boyfriend.

His eyes go dark and his nostrils flare. His brother spots him and rushes to put his pants on. "I swear to god, Kyle, this is not what it looks like," He says quickly.

"Then what else would it be hmm? A fucking cupcake party?" Kyle growls.

"Take out cupcake and you've got it about right," Kitty snorts. She started going by Kitty a few months ago, and when she told me that, she also told me that if I ever said her actual name again, she would cut me... in half.

Kyle chuckles and makes his way toward his younger brother, not younger by much, he was 18. Kyle grabs him by the collar of his shirt and lifts him up.

"I love you, but I told you if you hurt her, I would hurt you." Kyle punches him in the face and blood trickles from his nose. He regains his strength and kicks Kyle right where it hurts the most. Kyle doubles over and his brother knees him in the face.

"Admit it, Kyle, you're no match for me these days."

Kyle narrows his eyes and looks up with a smirk, blood runs from his lip. He takes a second then tackles his brother. They start brawling on the ground and I look over at who was once my best friend. She lies on the bed laughing at the boys. I walk up right next to her without her even noticing, her attention fixated on the two brothers fighting.

I build up all the strength in my body and slap her as hard as I can. She grits her teeth and turns her head toward me, I just flip her off and leave the room, wanting to escape from it all.
