I walk into the apartment after work, right as Kitty starts screaming at Kyle. I clench my jaw and my eyes burn into Kitty's.
"Cassie!" I yell. She looks at me and narrows her eyes. I just used her birth name. "Don't give me that look, I let you stay here, and you said it would only be for one night, so unless you decide to shape up and stop being a bitch, you can leave."
She puts her head down, "I'm sorry."
"And you," I point to Kyle, "I know she's done shitty things in the past, but put it behind her, I'm willing to make our office space- which we don't use -into another bedroom, as long long as she," I glare at Cass, "Is willing to pay rent.
"So what's it going to be, are you going to shape up, get a job, and start paying rent, or should I just throw you out onto the streets?" I ask.
She nods slowly, "I have a job interview today, I'll get this month's rent in by next week, thank you, Phoenix, for giving me this opportunity."
I inhale deeply, "Okay, what time is your job interview, and where?"
"It's a secretary job at the psychologist's office downtown, and the interview is at six."
I look at the clock, "Shit, that's in thirty minutes. Let's go."
----------------
We walk into the department store to get things for Cassie's new bedroom. Her job interview- according to her -went quite well, so I decided to make a hasty decision to let her stay, despite not knowing whether or not she got the job.
"So what were you thinking color wise?" I ask promptly.
"I kind of wanted to do light pinks and yellows," she says with a dimpled smile.
I gag internally but reply with clenched teeth, "sounds great, I love those colors put together." My eye twitches and I mutter, "remind me to never go in your room."
"You say something?" She asks, turning her head to look at me.
"Nope, just asking myself where the bedroom decor section is," I quip with a plastic grin.
"It's right here dummy" she laughs pointing in front of her.
'Why is she acting so strange, it's unlike her to be so... sweet' I think to myself. 'Talk about bipolar.'
"Ooh this one's perfect!" Cassie screeches. My eye twitches again.
"Great now can we go?" I beg with pleading eyes.
"Yeah, let's go checkout." She grabs the comforter and sheets then heads toward the front of the store. We have a mattress in storage, so I have that covered for when we get a bed frame, and up until then she can just sleep with the mattress on the ground.
I turn to go with her, but a hooded figure catches my eye. My eyes narrow as the person turns slightly, hands still in pockets, face still covered and unknown, but they can see me. Whoever it is knows me, I can tell just by how they're standing, as if on high alert.
I go to say something, but Cassie's voice brings me back. My head whips around and I glare at her, she motions for me to follow. I turn back around to see that the figure is gone. I blink a bunch of times and then turn around to go with Cassie, but am met with a tall figure.
A set of hands go to my shoulders and I look up to see a guy chuckling lightly. "Better watch where you going, might hurt yourself someday." I blush at his words. He has light brown hair, brown eyes, and a kind of chiseled figure, not to the point where it's creepy though.
I smile, "I'm sorry, I didn't mean for that to happen, I was distracted I guess."
"It's not a problem, at least let me have your phone number though?" He asks kindly.
I giggle and write out my number on his hand. "Call me," I say with a smile. I then run off to Cassie, who is already leaving the store.
