I noticed that Aphie hadn't come back from the office that day. I wondered what happened...
When I got home, I saw through my window that she wasn't home. What happened?
I tried texting her.
L- Um, Aph? Where are you? Are you okay?
There was no response.
Seriously, I'm starting to worry.
I just sighed and began to study for exams tomorrow. But I'm still really worried about Aphie...
About an hour later, I got a text.
A- I'm sorry Laurance. But I'm at the hospital right now and I wont be back until late. I'm sorry.
I quickly replied.
L- Why? Did something happen!? Are you okay!?
A- I'm fine. But I'm here for my mom.
L- Did something happen? I'm sorry.
A- I'll ttyl. Bye.
L- Ok, bye.
I wonder what happened to her mom. I hope she was okay. I don't want Aph to become depressed again.
I woke up when I heard my phone vibrate. I groaned and looked at it. It was a text from Aphie.
A- I'm back now. Just thought I'd tell you.
I looked over at my window and looked into my room. She was on her phone. Maybe I should come over? Nah, she should get her rest.
L- Is everything okay?
A- I guess.
L- Did something happen to your mom?
It took a while for her to respond.
A- She's gone now.
I looked at Aphie again. It looked like she was wiping away tears.
L- I'm so sorry. Is there anything I can do to help?
A- No. And don't apologize. My mom was a bad person and I don't feel sad at all.
I looked at her again. She was crying. Not sad, huh.
L- Aph, I can see you. You're crying. Do you want me to come over and comfort you?
She looked over at me with tears in her eyes. She nodded. I got up and quietly opened the door to my house. Then I knocked on Aphie's door. She soon opened it.
"Are you sure you're okay?" She sniffed.
"Y-Yes..." She paused and looked down. "No." She burst into tears and collapsed to the ground. I got to my knees and hugged her.
"I'm sorry." I kissed the top of her head. "You're freezing. You should get in bed."
"Y-Yeah..." She stood up and so did I. She walked to her room and I followed. She got in bed. "W-Well aren't you gonna join me?"
I smiled warmly and got in bed with her. She hugged me.
"Laurance..." She sobbed.
"It's okay. I'm here. Shh."
"I-I grew up hating my mom. She always was drunk and went out and partied and stuff and forget about me...but when she wasn't drunk, she truly loved me and tried to take care of me but I just treated or horribly...I-I never knew she loved me...I thought she just ignored me...n-now she's gone and I can't make it up to her..." She continued to cry. I stroked her hair
"Aphie..."
"N-Now I have no more family...Laurance, what do I do?"
"W-We're family." She looked at me confused.
"B-But we're not married..."
"That may be true but I've always considered you as family to me." I hugged her tightly. She smiled and blushed.
"Th-Thank you for always being there for me..."
"Thanks. And I'll always be there for you."
"Thank...you..." She fell asleep in my arms.
