"First game is against," Coach Neil paused, "drum roll please." All the players started to pound the table with their fists to create a drum roll sound. "Stanford!"
Tobin and Alex's heart dropped as they both looked at each other. It has been one month since they last saw Christen and Kelley.
Just last week, Kelley had called Alex to tell her about her relationship with Christen. Alex was shocked at first, but then grew furious. Her best friend was dating Christen so that meant Christen would still be in her life somehow. After all the incidents that had happened, she wanted to stay far away from Christen. Kelley was upset about how Alex took things and yelled at Alex for not being happy for her. Alex knew about Kelley's two-year crush from high school, Hope Solo, but it did not turn out well, as Hope did not like Kelley back. Alex explained to Kelley why she was not happy, but Kelley ignored her, furious that her best friend was not even acting like a best friend. Kelley decided that she had enough and hung up the phone, signaling to Alex that their friendship was on the verge of ending.
On the other hand, Tobin learned about Christen's relationship with Kelley the hard way. Alex had Kelley one speaker so Tobin had heard everything. She was upset that Christen had not told her and wanted to hear all the details. When she called Christen to tell her that she knew everything, Christen grew nervous and tried changing the subject. But Tobin was persistent and made sure she got all the answers she wanted. Tobin had found out that Christen and Kelley had sex the day Christen told her to be with Alex, but Tobin refused to do so. Tobin grew furious, but Christen did not understand why because she could tell that Tobin still had feelings for Alex. Tobin explained to Christen that she was upset because it was messed up how she had sex with another girl, a girl she knew, while they were still together. They were not officially broken up yet, so that was why it bothered her. Filled with fear, Christen hung up the phone, not wanting to deal with Tobin's yelling.
"This game is going to be interesting," Tobin said to Alex while they were walking back to their dorm, hand in hand.
"At least you're not playing in it. It would be a bloodbath."
Tobin laughed, "Even with me on the sideline and you on the field, it's going to end in a bloodbath no matter what. Just promise me one thing."
"What is it?" Alex asked with her head tilted like a confused puppy. Tobin loved when Alex did that.
Tobin smirked, "Don't let them nutmeg you, you nutmeg them."
Alex held up her other hand's pinky to pinky promise Tobin, "I promise."
One week had passed and today was game day. Today was the day Alex would play against two people who she least wanted to see. Tobin was excited, but nervous to see how the game would go.
Tobin and Alex were walking together, hands intertwined with one another, to the field.
"I'm nervous, Tobs," Alex said while squeezing Tobin's hand.
"Why? You're Alex Morgan, one of the greatest soccer players I know. You're a total badass, you're going to play awesome today," Tobin responded with a big smile.
"No, not about the game. Well, yes I am a bit nervous, hopefully I get playing time, but what I meant was, I'm nervous about seeing Kelley and Christen. Especially Kelley, she probably hates me and wants to tackle me."
"Damn, this is when I wish I could play because if she were to tackle you, I'd tackle her back, 100 times harder."
"Okay Tobs, take it down a notch. She may hate me, but she's still my best friend," Alex said while laughing. "But, I'm so getting Christen, even if she does play forward, I'm going to sprint all the way to the back just so I could tackle her."
Tobin felt uneasy. She was disappointed with Christen after what had happened, but she still cared for her. "Maybe take it down a notch with Christen? I mean, um, don't kill her," Tobin responded nervously.
Alex stopped walking to look at Tobin who was staring at the ground. Tobin looked up to see Alex, who had a confused face.
"So what? You just want me to ignore her and the fact that she is your ex who had sex with my best friend, while you two were still kind of together?"
"She's still a friend, kind of," Tobin shrugged.
Alex let go of Tobin's hand and continued walking. "I get it, you still care for your ex-girlfriend, whatever," Alex yelled while walking, not looking back at Tobin.
Tobin ran to catch up with Alex. "You told me to take it down a notch with Kelley, why can't you take it down a notch with Christen?"
Alex glared at Tobin, "Because she was your girlfriend after me. I like taking down my competition." Tobin sighed. "C'mon, Tobin, don't you feel at least a little hatred for Christen, after she did it with Kelley?"
"Let's not talk about this anymore. Besides, you should start warming up with the team," Tobin said while looking down on the ground.
Alex could tell that this was a touchy subject, but she was worried about why Tobin still cared for Christen. She agreed to drop the subject by nodding her head, "I'm sorry, Tobin. It's just that, it hurts me to know that she did that to you. Especially since you guys were still together, kind of. But what makes me more furious, is that she did it with my best friend. It's just a little tension that I need to get off my chest."
"I know, Alex, I know. Just play your heart out today, it's your first collegiate game. You're going to be great. Do whatever you want, just don't get hurt. And remember our promise?"
Alex smiled, "Yes, don't get nutmegged, but nutmeg them. This game is for you, Tobs. If I injure them, I apologize in advance."
Tobin laughed and knowing Alex's persistence, she knew she could not convince her to take it easy on Christen and Kelley. "Warm up good, I love you."
Alex blushed, "I love you too."
They gave each other a quick peck on the lips and smiled at each other. Alex ran out to warm up with the team.
"Dear God, please don't let Alex get hurt. And don't let her injure them too badly," Tobin said while looking up to the sky.
Hey guys! Once again, did not proofread because I wanted to get the update uploaded ASAP. I will try to update the next chapter sooner because that whole chapter will be the game and what happens afterwards! Future updates will most likely be on the weekends, but some will be on the weekdays.
Anyways, this was just a filler chapter to update you on what's going to happen next. Also, I have decided to continue this story and end up after a couple of chapters. I am thinking of ending somewhere in the 30s maybe? I want to get started on my new story, which will be Talex, based on your votes. BUT, *surprise,* I will also be doing a Preath story! So two stories at once, I totally got this! *nervous laughter* I will not tell you what it is going to be about, but a hint is that both stories will not be soccer based.
Remember to keep voting and thanks for reading! (:
