I have no idea how I lost track of the lunar cycle, but when the change overtook me, it was painful and fast. It was also perfectly timed. Had it not been a full moon, I probably would have shifted any way. There were too many vampires for me to handle. But with my wolf in full control, we had handled the vamp quickly and efficiently.

My wolf ran us down the hall, sniffing after the kidnapper vamp that we had not yet encountered. Once we had run into a small opening in the hall that held a big metal door similar to one that you see that banks would have in the movies. But not nearly as thick, and it also had a sliding panel to look into the room. We could smell Brayden on the other side of that door, and we both decided that we would do whatever we could to save his life.

Just as we were bracing our self to ram into the door, the vamp we had been hunting for jumped out in front of us. Our instantaneous reaction was to snarl.

"Hey there lover boy!" He tried to sound intimidating, "Did you really think we would let you take him that easily?" He laughed like a maniac.

Instantly, other figures seemed to appear out of the dark around me. They all knew I was much stronger than them, and they waited for me to make the first move. We looked at them all out of the corners of our eyes. Then, one of the vamps jumped at me.

My wolf sprang into action, launching himself back at the vampire, and ripped out his throat. He barley had the chance to scream before his windpipe was crushed and torn out. The other vampires jumped into action too.

The vamps were unsure of me now that I had killed one of their own. They were all hesitant to make a move, but reluctantly, a few did. One individual that happened to be a female, I noted, lunged at my wolf's legs. This caught us by surprise, but he jumped before she could touch us. She landed on the ground beneath us, and before she had the chance to roll away, we landed on top of her. We instantly went to her throat, and she too was now dead.

The next two vamps attacked at the same time. One reached us first, and my wolf ran, and met the vamp full stride. Gravity seemed to have a momentary lapse as my wolf ran up to the chest of the vamp. Like most kills that a wolf can make against a vampire, again, he went for the throat. While still in mid stride, my wolf clamped onto his windpipe as he pushed off of the chest of the first vamp, and flew across to the other. This vamp was smart by putting up an arm to protect his throat. But rather than the throat, my wolf bit into his shoulder and ripped so hard that his entire tore away, leaving exposed bone and shoulder ligaments.

More vamps swarmed, and more vamps died. The one who kidnapped Brayden stayed back and watched most of the fighting. Then, as if by some silent signal, the remaining vamps up and ran down the same hallway. They had probably gone for help. But the kidnapper had stayed behind.

"I see you're determined to save your mate in there, but you have to go through me first." He said, then lunged. my wolf dropped to the ground and rolled out of the way. The vamp landed on his arms where I was, and somersaulted over back to a standing position. Without hesitation, he ran at my wolf again.
