"Kuro....Wake up dear!.."
"Mum?"
"Happy 8th birthday, dear!"
"C'mon, Kuro! I want some cake!"
"Me, too!"
"OK!"
I remember this day....
It was so happy.
For once, I felt........safe.
I remember getting out of bed and being helped into my favorite new dress...the white one with the pretty deep blue ribbon that wrapped around my waist....the one with a frilly skirt that went to my knees.....the one with the cute little bell collar............the one I was wearing when the hunters attacked.
I ran down the stairs, and into the small dinning room. On the table was a rather small cake, barely big enough to feed 4 people. It was a white cake, with light blue frosting. Right next to it was a small basket with a blanket over the top of it. I took a sit at the table, right in front of the cake. My mum smiled warmly at me, taking a seat in between me and Father. Roxanne was sitting next me and in front of the basket.
I remember that I still lived in the Haikyo district, originally called the Azayaka district, and that this district was the closest to the land of the humans and hunters.
"C'mon Kuro! blow out your candles so that we can have cake!"
"Roxy, we haven't even lit the candles yet.."
"I know, I know, but I really want cake! I did spend all morning baking it!"
"OK, there Kuro blow out your candles."
I remember smiling as I blew the fire off of my candles.
I remember my family clapping, and smiling, too. It seemed as if they were as happy as I was.
I remember Roxy the basket in my direction, and telling me to open.
I remember opening and seeing a stuffed bear inside. I instantly loved it, as I hugged with all I could.
Mum placed a hand on my shoulder and said,"Happy birthday, Dea-"
...
She never finished her sentence, though.
A large 'boom' sound was heard. Father ran to a window.....
....
..
Only to have gotten shot...
"Lucas!!"
Another gunshot sounded.
Mum grabbed Roxy's and my hand, and ran to the back door. We made our to the streets. Many dead carcasses floored the ground, more was on its way. We ran as fast as we could to the train station, many having the same idea.
During the run, I lost my teddy bear.
Letting go of my mum's grip, I ran to retrieve it. I could hear her shouts after me, trying to find me, as I was rather short for my age. I shortly found my teddy bear and ended up reaching it.
But, as soon as I touched it, chaos went lose.
....................
I remember it so well, monsters were screaming, buildings were on fire, arrows pierced the air.......mother was crying........father was sleeping on the ground never to wake again, and Roxy.....I had no idea where she was. I was scared. No. Terrified. But, to be honest, who'd blame me? I gripped my teddy harder. I was running away from a stray hunter.
I remember a gunshot landed somewhere above my head
I remember that I started crying. I ran into a abandoned building and darted inside a nearby closet. It seemed too small for a hunter to climb into. I sat in the corner of the closet, clutching my plush bear tight, I started to cry.
I felt so utterly helpless. I remember that feeling....It was anger and sadness and guilt.......I wanted my family with me so badly.
"Kuro! Kuro, where are you?!?"
Just as I was to utter a word, I hear a gunshot, a bloodcurdling scream, then silence.
A deathly silence.
I remembered that footsteps soon approach me as a shadow appears in front of the closet door. I scooted deeper into the closet corner, for instinct told me that the small light that seeped though would burn me alive. As if years pasted, the shadow disappeared and I let go of the breath that I held in. Even after several minutes, I didn't move an inch. As sleepiness washed over me, four words were still itched in the back of my mind:
The humans are back.
